The unfortunate thing is: we want to know the motivations of this student. And it is important for us to know the motivations.

But the publicizing of the motivations of these students leads to "copycat" situations like this one.

It's a vicious cycle. We have to find a way to stop all this.

The shooter a 17 year old male student is dead.

We do not know if this was an attempted mass shooting or a targeted one. Since the two wounded are a male and female student it could be about a spurned lover/jealousy type thing.

*yawn* Maybe Americans will grow tired of shooting students as they no longer get shocked reactions & instant infamy because the market for their brand of BS has become so saturated that people hardly skip a beat when they read another headline about another school shooting? Personally, I didn’t bother to even click either link as it’s the same ol’ story stuck on repeat.

Yeah, the word we're getting, here, in Maryland, is that the shooter was a white male, 17 years old, and that the 16 y.o. female may have dumped him, and he went to the school, to specifically kill her (she is still in very critical condition).

The other kid who was shot, was a 14 y.o. boy, and he is in good condition----though, still in the hospital. No one knows, last-I-heard, how or why he was shot.

I also wanted to add that I am very proud of that SRO----IMO, that's what should have happened in Florida (the SROs should have confronted the gunman, there). The place where this happened (about 90 miles from Baltimore) is one of the "gun country" areas of MD (as in, hunting culture), so the SRO, probably a "gun culture" person, didn't act as a spineless jellyfish.

Also, I wanted to add that this crime was perpetrated with a handgun, that it is not yet official that that's why the shooting happened (boy being rejected by girl, or if he had planned to shoot-up the whole school), and that we still haven't gotten word, last I heard, whether the SRO killed the kid (though he didn't die on-scene), or the kid took his own life; only that the kid shot at the SRO, and the SRO returned fire.

I just heard on our local news that the 14 y.o. boy was released from the hospital, this morning----so, THAT'S good. I'm really concerned about that girl, though----they say she's really struggling.

Not concerned enough to advocate sane gun control laws, though.

Maryland school shooting victim taken off life support

Quote:
A 16-year-old girl who was shot in the head by a classmate in Maryland has died, hours after her parents said she would be taken off life support.

Jaelynn Willey, who was one of two students shot, died on Thursday night, police confirmed.

Austin Rollins, with whom Ms Willey was previously in a relationship, allegedly opened fire before classes on Tuesday. He was also killed in the incident.

Her mother said her daughter is one of nine siblings and a member of the school swim team.

Some 1,600 students attend the Great Mills High School near the Chesapeake Bay, where Mr Rollins shot Ms Willey and a 14-year-old boy.

The boy suffered a gunshot wound to the thigh and was released from hospital on Wednesday, police said.

Jaelynn Willey and the suspected gunman "had a prior relationship which recently ended," the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office said. "All indications suggest the shooting was not a random act of violence."

The kid was 17 and had a handgun which you're not supposed to have until you're 21, so what new law do would you like to pass for him to break?
