Not that most of us aren't aware that the news misleads, but this short vid clip points out several very positive things that never get reported on:

I couldn't get the video to run for some strange reason, but a few positive things don't make up with all the horror that's happening in the world. Also I don't know if I'm a psychopath or just really cynical, because when I read on wiki last night about all the people who died in a mall fire in Russia, most of them children, instead of being upset I just said sarcastically to myself, "Yay. It just keeps getting better and better."

Of course, there are very likely a lot of Russiaphobic people who've said a lot worse.

You’ll have to get the short video clip to play to understand it’s message. The point is that there are far more good things happening in the world now, and over recent decades leading us to now, than bad things. It’s just that positive human progress (like the highest literacy rates in history, the lowest extreme poverty rates ever, the best racial relations yet, the closest we’ve come to gender parity in education, murder and other crime rates that are down dramatically since even the 1970’s etc etc) don’t make for senational headlines like bad news does so we’re told about every negative instance and not informed about all the wonderful happenings going on. The speakers point is that no matter who you are, the very best time to be alive in human history is right now - we’ve literally, collectively, never had it so good and the news media completely ignores this and intentionally misleads people into believing that the world is going through such a horrific time when nothing could be further from the truth.

In other words, the world may be sh***y, but it used to be much shittier.

No. The message is not negative or pessimistic at all. The message is that the world is the best it’s ever been despite the negativity spread by news media.
