Almost 350 news outlets to publish editorials denouncing Trump's 'dirty war' on press - Participation comes after a push organized by the Boston Globe to run coordinated editorials against Trump’s attacks on the media

Quote:
The outgoing UN human rights commissioner, Zeid Ra’ad al-Hussein, told the Guardian this week that Trump’s comments are “very close to incitement to violence”.

The rhetoric “could quite easily lead to harm being inflicted on journalists just going about their work and potentially some self-censorship,” he said.

It's absolutely sterling work from him. I'm still laughing about it hours later.

A Free Press Needs You

Quote:
In 2018, some of the most damaging attacks are coming from government officials. Criticizing the news media — for underplaying or overplaying stories, for getting something wrong — is entirely right. News reporters and editors are human, and make mistakes. Correcting them is core to our job. But insisting that truths you don’t like are “fake news” is dangerous to the lifeblood of democracy. And calling journalists the “enemy of the people” is dangerous, period.

In the US Trump’s nazis are already sending death threats to reporters. Are these people deranged? Obviously.

"We, the People" are fighting back. Even though they may not get to the Big Cheese, they can still nibble like rats at all of the Little Cheeses -- due to public pressure, the FCC has shut down Alex Jones' radio station and levied fines against him, for instance.

Jones talks lots of bollocks - so what? There's plenty of bollock-talkers out there. He's amusing to me.

As for Trump - he is awesome. They don't like it, which makes me a very happy bunny.

I’m so happy Brexit not being acted on or gotten rid of is doing such wonders for your country.

I’m also guessing like Trump you favor lunacy and bigotry.

The laugh will be ours.

In a few short years the EU will be a... what was it again?

He who laughs last, laughs loudest. The EU politicians need to be treated with respect - we need to work together - but the hangers-on? Pah!

Exactly, what will it be again?

No one knows because literally nothing is happening.

It’s like the longest traffic stop ever and I so love how it’s tearing some people apart.

(For those who can’t tell all of this is sarcasm - just reflecting a deranged love for anarchy back by showing what the UK equivalent is)

... you're a socialist who favours the clamping down on free speech...
Wrong.

I'm a free-market, anti-slacker, what's-mine-is-mine curmudgeon who looks down on Socialism as institutionalized handouts for undeserving freeloaders.

Furthermore, the right to "Free Speech" means only that the government can't arrest you for what you say. It does not mean that anyone else has to support your right to say it, or even listen to you while you speak. So if you get yelled at, boycotted, banned from a social website, or lose your privilege to run a broadcast station, your Free Speech rights aren't being violated. It's just that people think that you are a jerk, and they're telling you to get lost.

Dude, Trump’s supporters don’t even recognize the Declaration of Independence let alone the Constitution.

When NPR tweeted the DOI, Trumpsters were triggered because they didn’t know it was the DOI.

The United Kingdom will act as a shining example of how to ditch a bad institution. We are not America, we are not Europe, we will be happy and free. It will be a nice place to live.

Yeah. Nope lol. It’ll literally forever be stuck on neither following through or getting rid of Brexit forever.

It’s inaction is making all of the right people so angry.

I misjudged.

What gets me is the large number of foreign citizens who claim to support Mr. Trump. Maybe they do so because they hate America, and are cackling with glee over their belief that we finally got the kind of president we deserve.

That or they’re anarchists (I’m guessing) who love chaos, thus my holding a mirror up through using Brexit (their wrecking ball).
