The Baltic states have piqued my interests for the past few years, mostly due to the economy. It's no surprise that their economic environment has allowed plenty of room for innovation. Without further ado, here's the article:

Quote:
Estonia may be tiny but in tech terms it's a giant. It has a population of just 1.3 million, yet produces more start-ups per head than any other country in Europe. Right on the edge of Europe, halfway between Stockholm and St Petersburg, the tech-savvy country that launched Skype a decade ago continues to be a hotbed of entrepreneurs and innovation. Examples of tech companies to come out of Estonia include Fitsme, a virtual fitting room for online clothing retailers, now in 16 countries, and Creative Mobile -- a company creating free-to-play games for mobile platforms.

Thanks for posting this.

It certainly looks like Estonia is moving rapidly in entrepreneurship as these two articles show.

Estonia targets UK tech talent

The Estonian government is introducing legislation and policies to address the country’s needs quickly. For example, since 2015, Estonia has pioneered an e-residency programme, which gives foreigners, such as entrepreneurs, access to Estonian government services. https://www.computerweekly.com/news/252 ... tal-nomads

An Estonian e-residency is a transnational digital identity available to anyone in the world interested in administering a business online.

The Estonian government is also working with a recruitment platform on the possibility of introducing a special visa for people who work mainly online. Applications are open until 23 September. https://www.computerweekly.com/news/252 ... tal-nomads

Business Lessons From The World's Most Digital Country, Estonia, And The Happiest Country, Finland

Just back from Estonia, considered the most digital country in the world, I am now highly motivated to go paperless! I’d heard of Estonia’s “digital” reputation, but didn’t realize how extensive and pervasive the digital mindset was throughout the entire little nation of 1.3 million inhabitants. Estonia’s quest for digitization began in 1991, after the breakup of the Soviet Union. It had a clean slate and was not wedded to bureaucratic legacy systems that encumber so many countries.

Interesting - I visited Tallinn recently and found the Old Town charming. The locals were very nice (in a non-intrusive way) and laid-back and the food is absolutely fantastic - a much welcomed surprise since I was coming from 3 moths of culinary deprivation in Helsinki :D
