A five-year-old autistic boy was strapped to his chair in school
Quote:
Belfast Live reports that photos were sent to the parents of the child that showed the child strapped to the chair while other children were able to play freely.
The parent discovered that this was happening to their child ten months ago and they asked the school for an apology and for reassurance that this would not happen again.
However, the parents never received any apology and they decided to contact Social Services.
We’d no idea he was restrained in a chair in school and we hadn’t given our permission for that to be done and we were never asked.
"But we were told by other parents that they’d seen our son being wheeled in the chair at the school but when we asked the school, they denied it.”
The child's father said: “We knew there was something seriously wrong.
"At first we worried that it might be something to do with his autism and this behaviour was going to be a part of his everyday life.
"It was a terrible time.“
