It's one thing to adhere to the principle of never speak ill of the dead; it's another altogether to gloss over war crimes and corruption. The corporate media is doing what it does best in the wake of George H.W. Bush's death: Turning a blind eye to the truth perpetuating the pro-war mentality of the nation state.

There are a few brave souls willing to stand up to the bullying of the programmed sheeple and corporate media, thankfully. The author of the article below is one example. He does a stellar job of highlighting the many disgusting misdeeds of the 41st POTUS, from his use of racism in his election campaign to the carpet bombing of the civilian infrastructure of Iraq during the Persian Gulf War. It's good that we have at least a handful of journalists silling to set the record straight.

The Ignored Legacy of George H.W. Bush: War Crimes, Racism, and Obsruction of Justice

Your thesis is based on a rant from a Palestinian sympathizer who hates Israel and anyone who supports it, so of course he's going to attack an American Patriot like George H. W. Bush.

Bush was against Israeli settlements, hence why he wasn't re-elected.

No, it's actually based the content of the article being factual.

Nope. That was pretty much a non issue in '92.

After 12 years of Republican Presidency, the country wanted a change.

The lingering effect of a mild recession. "It's the economy stupid" was coined for that campaign.

Clinton was more telegenic and ran a better campaign. Sold himself as saxophone playing cool and hip. The campaign understood how to use late night talk shows etc.

Ross Perot(somewhat of a Trump preview) took away more votes from Bush then Clinton.

It does us no good as a country to ignore the crimes of our leaders. In an interview from 2003, Noam Chomsky offered a disturbing an sobering analysis of all post WW2 presidents up to Bush2. If we hold them all to the standards of the Nuremberg tribunal, all are guilty of war crimes. If we wish to survive as a nation, then we'd better start owning up to these facts and alter the way we conduct ourselves in the world.

He's talking about the author of the article I posted, not John Powell.

Do some people think killing hundred of thousands with a pen is more civilized than killing 5 people with a knife?!

The OP (and Noam Chomsky) are 100% correct.

Why should we be civil and respectful when a political figure dies?

I think in a RIP memorial thread one should post to it just to pay their respects.

But a thread like this is entirely different. No holds barred within reason and no "too soon" factor.

Funeral coverage is on t.v. as I write this.

I've attended so many funerals now that I believe you set aside your politics and personal differences in respect, not to the deceased, but to their closest friends and of course family. Funerals are not about the dead; they're about the living.

I also have to observe that the unspoken contrast between Bush and the one we got now in the White House is making Bush look awfully damn good by comparison.
