This thread should read, government shutdown paused.
I doubt he will try another one in three weeks. This one did not go very well for him. A day after saying yet again he would never accept a deal without funding for the wall he did just that. That is because his polling numbers went bad. For two years now his approval ratings stayed roughly the same between 39 to 42 percent. During the shutdown it has dropped to around 34 or 35 percent. Russia Russia,Russia did not erode his support, racists are very fine people did not erode his support, tax cuts for the swamp did not erode his support, hush money to Stormy Danials did not erode his support, tell all books from saying he is psycho did not do it. It took the shutdown that he bragged about wanting to do it.
I am surprised. When this shutdown started I thought another shutdown ho hum. Yeah a goverment shutdown is symbolic of our dysfunctional country but I have not needed symbols to know that for a long time. For all of my life federal workers have been mainly viewed as overpaid, lazy, unfeeling bureaucrats leeching off of hard working taxpayers. In just 5 weeks they have become sympathetic figures with people helping them out. It has been an amazing transformation to watch. The air traffic controller sick outs have have garnered sympathy, when Reagan fired striking air traffic controllers the opposite happened.
He might invoke a national emergency to pay for the wall but the way his voice was so hesitent when talking about it I doubt that.
