Quote:
The Department of Justice (DOJ) on Monday announced that it is siding with a district court ruling that found the Affordable Care Act unconstitutional.

The move is an escalation of the Trump administration's legal battle against the health care law.

The DOJ previously argued in court that the law's pre-existing condition protections should be struck down. Now, the administration argues the entire law should be invalidated.

U.S. District Court Judge Reed O'Connor ruled in December that the Affordable Care Act's individual mandate is unconstitutional and that the rest of law is therefore invalid.

So both POTUS and the DOJ are against health care for poor people. What else is new?

I believe it's the law part that's being declared invalid. In other words the people who are too poor to afford huge obamacare premiums, but not poor enough to qualify for a subsidy, will no longer be fined/robbed of hundreds of dollars by the government when they file their taxes.

The government can still provide healthcare to the poor, without screwing over the working poor in the process with mandatory obamacare.

You'd think by now the US government would have been intelligent enough to design a healthcare system that works well for its citizens, whether rich or poor.

Part of this is because of the notion that "universal health insurance" is somehow "socialistic."

Why are so many Americans pathologically paranoid about social democracy/democratic socialism?

They see health care a a finite resource. Everyone will want knee replacements and plastic surgery if they can get it.

I think they see health care for poor people to be free give-aways to those they see as lazy and unworthy, who didn't "earn" said health care.

This is important because the next POTUS could reinstate the individual mandate.

I would say it would probably be best to bump the tax brackets up. As in make a new tax bracket for 1 million a year and drop the tax bracket for 12k. That would help poor people out alot, it's not like one can really live that well on 12k a year. Plus, if they stopped giving illegals welfare for having a kid in the US when they aren't even supposed to be here, maybe we could afford to give people on welfare a little extra? Also, only pay for one child someone has while on welfare rather than three. I would say that's fair. If you can't afford to have kids, the government shouldn't be required to pay for them. (While on welfare, not saying that shouldn't help you out if you already have multiple kids then get put on welfare. That is a drain unnecessary drain.)
