It is not just a Catholic loss, it a civilizational loss. It is one of the most visited tourist sites in the world. It represents a distinct period in history: religious, architectural, philosophical, and cultural.

Hundreds of years before explorers set out to discover the Americas, the Notre Dame Cathedral stood.
Hundreds of years to create, a few hours to destroy.

That's awful. I love cathedral architecture. It's a sad irony that it happened because of renovation work to save it due to deterioration. I think the same thing happened to Windsor Castle around 20 years ago.

They have "saved" the main part of Notre Dame. I believe they saved the precious art, too.

The French are going to conduct a criminal investigation. They called it an "involuntary" fire....probably an euphemism for arson.

I think it's most likely due to a construction accident.

That's possible, too.

But President Macron seems adamant that there must be a thorough investigation of this.

It would be better if it turned out to be a "construction accident."

I'm thinking it's related to construction because that spire which seems to be the focal point was surrounded by scaffolding.

That would make sense.

Fortunately the front of the cathedral which is the most recognizable part was left intact.

That's like if the Eiffel Tower collapsed, or the White House was on fire like in 1812.

I think Earth is reclaiming back her property with related events like the African floods.

The human collective energies are collapsing on themselves so rapdily, we have multiple blood moons and wolf moons in what usually would take decades before reappearing.

Not surprised in 2019.

Notre Dame cathedral has been a structure I've wanted to visit for the longest time. It's literally on my bucket list. I just hope whatever damage there is is repairable.

Well it was already undergoing restoration. Now it will be undergoing really really extensive restoration.

I wonder if the Vatican is hurting financially and this was attempted insurance fraud. If so I'll be highly disappointed. and amused.

Most likely some dumb ass welder wasn't careful with his sparks and a few of them got away. Or maybe someone on thier cigarette break wasn't careful with their embers. Considering everyone in France smokes, don't they usually take a break from smoking?
