George Orwell, call your office.

YouTube deletes award-winning history teacher's World War II videos in 'hate speech' purge

A history teacher said he was “devastated” after his YouTube account, which has become popular among GCSE students learning about World War II, was banned by the video-sharing website for violating its hate speech policy.

Scott Allsop said he suspected YouTube had removed around 15 years worth of material because it included clips on Nazi policy featuring propaganda speeches by Nazi leaders. The channel included 120 clips covering world history from the past 1,000 years.

Youtube also demonetized a lot of conservative commentators who never came close to 'hateful speech' and also labeled that mentioning someone's citizen status, example; illegal immigrant or undocumented, a form of 'hate speech. They need to be regulated so free speech is promised and fulfilled(as it already is) being these huge platforms are considered the 'digital town square' or labeled as a publisher and be responsible for the material which exists on the platform. So far in courts they are playing both sides, when it benefits them to justify their actions they claim either one, publisher or platform. I've been watching a lot of info on it, while they claim hateful speech is not permitted and demonetize conservative commentators who break no rules they allow very hateful speech as long as it is aimed at conservatives.

Actually this makes perfect sense in case the uploaded videos are taken out of context by young impressionable minds. Nazi propaganda should be discussed in the school classroom where an educated teacher can carefully explain the perils and pitfalls of Nazism.

I feel that there are too many videos on YouTube that are being reported and removed.

So now we have to censor the content of history channels online because "young and impressionable minds" might be inspired to become Nazis? Why stop there, how about the History Channel on television? We can't have the children accidentally watching a documentary on fascism, while mom and dad are tearing one off in the bedroom.

It’s clear that there is no broad consensus on what constitutes hate speech. Things like Holocaust denial/defense should definitely fit the definition. However, some are defining it to include mere criticism of anyone who isn’t a white, straight, cis, non-disabled Christian male—even if that person’s demographic status wasn’t a factor in said criticism.

I think as long as the videos are accompanied by contextual commentary that explains the historical circumstance it can stay. What facebook might be concerned about is videos that are just posted to draw clicks because they show Nazis goose stepping around Berlin or shooting jews in ditches without suitably qualified commentary.

From what i understand, there have been various incidents in various countries which were committed by individuals with a particular dynamic of circumstance and health issues who were influenced by certain types of videos on the internet that include those on you tube.

These incidents include shootings that have resulted in the mass murder of a number of people from a targeted
demographic or religious / political viewpoint.

Such incidents are extremely saddening and inevitably achieve nothing but perhaps change the public's perception with regards who they see as the most suitable next president etc. based on his opinion and solutions to such events.

I think that some of these people, are people who are isolated, who may hold a great deal of hate and frustration inside them and are looking for someone to blame for their predicament or for a solution to their problems or perhaps even
a cause to fight for which they ultimately hope will help rid the world of what they perceive as the cause of what they perceive as their problems.

Ironically, in some cases, if the victim that such people blame for their problem, didn't exist, such people would often likely still have their own personal problems and still be filled full of frustration and hate.

Yes. Hate breeds hate, abuse often breeds abuse. Hate rarely cures problems.
If the nazi had had their way, once they had eradicated all the inferior races and enslaved the rest.
such people would have likely still be filled full of hate, and thus would end up hating each other.
And the cycle continues.

So perhaps the problem isn't race after all but hating.

Erasing history is a quick way to make sure it repeats.
Maybe after the 2nd holocaust we will learn. Wait there’s been many erased genocides in history, guess we humans will never learn. A history forgotten is doomed to be repeated.
Wouldn’t suprise me if it happens again in my lifetime, I suspect nk might be doing one.Genocides happen in Africa all the time but on smaller scale.
I grew up watching ww2 history’s. I know hitlers speech scene all to well. What it shows is how such a speech can drive society to madness and to watch out.

Who said anything about erasing history? the videos in question should be regulated to be restricted from young kids if they contain violent images and have commentary to properly inform viewers

If young people don't have a chance to see WWII videos, how are they going to know that Britain brought the world back to a peaceful state.
