Brazil’s far-right populist president has encouraged the wanton destruction of the world’s greatest forest.

Scientists warn The Trump of the tropics is speeding up global climate disaster by a number of years with his wanton clearing of virgin rainforest,

The fires can be seen from space...another right wing nut job given a free pass to destroy the planet

NASA images suggest Much of Brazil is on fire

Image

If the Amazon is of the lungs of the earth then Bolsanaro has just given the earth lung cancer. First legitimate case for planned assassination of a world leader.

Brazil is rather large. At what altitude is that photo? What percentage of Brazil is being seen? I bet if I study recent google earth images of Brazil I will not see any indication of this. I bet I can spend many hours on google earth flying over Brazilian rain foests and only see dense folliage.

It's bad

Some reports on TV news suggest up to 60% of the Amazon is either on fire or burnt

Well then, I should have absolutely no problem seeing that when I get on my computer later.

I have spent a huge amount of time going over the cascade, olympic mountain and olympic peninsula rain forests in washington state, so something of that magnitude should really stand out to me.

Okay then I expect to get my socks scared off when I go over 2019 satellite imagery later on.

In the meantime here is some timeline satellite imagery from 1984 to 2018 of Brazil. I am looking at it on my phone right now so perhaps I am missing something. What major changes do you see?

^ cyberdad, no comment about these satellite images of the Brazilian rain forest from 1984 to 2018, which show no indication that I can see there has been any major change, much less a 60% reduction?

in this horrible era of fake news and alternative facts, i would not put it past certain people to routinely doctor videos [they have done that before] and images [they have done that before]. the bulk of the money and energy for this collective bearing of false witness, is on the right and on the propaganda factories in russia and elsewhere.

Nope just ordinary satillite images over the last 35 years. Don't need a news agency for that. It is readily accessible to the public.

As for the news clip it is obvious they do not like the guy which seems to be their main focus. So I expect a lot of the usual hype spin and sensationalism in a situation like that.

I will have to check AP to see what is really going on without the usual bs.

Ground images provide limited perspective. Like the difference between ground photos of Trump's inauguration showing huge attendance and aerial photos showing scant attendance.
