In an email to USA TODAY, Ira Arlook, of Fire Drill Fridays, confirmed that Fonda was arrested amid the inaugural demonstration Friday.

U.S. Capitol Police Communications Director Eva Malecki told USA TODAY a total of "16 individuals" were arrested for "unlawfully demonstrating on the East Front of the U.S. Capitol."

According to local outlet WUSA's Mike Valerio, Fonda planned to get arrested.

"She tells us she'll be here *every* Friday into 2020 — demonstrate, get arrested, repeat," he tweeted with photos of him interviewing the actress.

47 years too late and for the wrong reason.

Activities Requiring Permits - Capital Hill Police

I doubt the penalty will be more then a fine and I would think the statue of limitations if there is one it has run out for the treason she committed in 1972. Well worth it for the publicity and career boost this will give her.

This goes deeper than that. She betrayed American troops by travelling to Hanoi during the Vietnam conflict to encourage the Viet Cong to fight those same American troops. Then her daddy pulled a few strings to keep her out of jail. She was, is, and always will be a traitor to her country, that's all.

I'm familiar with what she did, and see utterly no issue. America's aggression against Vietnam was the crime, people had a moral obligation to protest.

Life is not fair. She should have been prosecuted but lets look back to the early 70’s. Six months after her trip under the guise of a ceasefire the US quit the unpopular war abandoning an ally(sound familiar). Within a year Nixon would be embroiled in Watergate. He was not going to risk political capital creating a martyr for a lost cause.

Fonda’s career was hurt for a few years by boycotts but regained momentum in the film “Coming Home” maddeningly about a Vietnam Vet returning home. Her workout videos were wildly popular in the 80s. Some of us have continued to boycott her films and on occasion she has been confronted. Pathetic as all this time she has been laughing all the way to the bank. As I said life is not fair.

It was not protesting that was the problem it was how she did it. Sitting on anti aircraft guns used to shoot down American pilots was aiding and abetting the enemy ie. treason.

From whatever morale boost for the North Vietnamese to whatever further American morale degradation unknowable.

Personal note. I am surprised at the amount and intensity reaction my OP has gotten, that she is still such a lightning rod all these decades later. I was hesitant to even post this the story. I figured nobody under 60 would even remember the North Vietnam trip mind still care or even know who she is. Shows what I know.

She was gorgeous, and I loved her with Robert Redford in Barefoot In The Park. I'm amazed she's still active. Is she a lefty? She was of course part of the culture then of Make love not war as we all were back in the sixties.
