I guess 50 different schools are going to try a pilot program to introduce gaming as a competitive activity. I think that's interesting and wish they had it when I was a kid. Apparently its the 16th state to try this.

The article for some reason does not state which specific games, but in the picture and video...its obvious they are playing League of Legends.

If esports pertains to games like Wii Tennis, DDR or any other game that requires physical agility, then I am all for it.

This is similar to the chess club, mathletes (math athletes), or quiz bowl clubs.

^ I hadn't heard of the latter two, but yeah, if chess is a sport, then esports are too.

I think it's good that they include different things that different people are into. Why does it always have to competitive activity though? Should be an option for those who like to chill with it too, especially in places where it seems extracurriculars are mandatory, as it seems they are in the US?

It does not pertain to those sort of games.

There probably are some extracurricular activities like that, not sure what all the various schools offer. But the idea here seems to be having an option for kids who want to compete in something but aren't interested or good with sports/physical competitions.
