People are probably deluding themselves if they expect BJ to resign over this. Bet he's got a few tricks up his sleeve yet.

I thought proroguing Parliament was one of the Queen's prerogatives. But I guess the informal understanding that exists in British politics has itself become a kind of law.

If now isn't the time for a VoNC then when is?!

problem with it is that I believe there would likely be enough to vote it through but not enough to vote in a Corbyn lead 'Govt of national unity'. If he stepped aside I think there may be people (Clarke? Harman?) to unite the MP's and form a short term Govt, if he doesn't and fails to form a Govt then Parliament is dissolved so that campaigning for a GE can take place, that would go on for weeks and take us beyond Oct 31st

eek!

as ever, all to play for still!

Boris Johnson says the law is:The UK leaves EU on 10-31-19 and he says "we should have an election".

But if I am not mistaken didn't parliament pass a law saying that if there was no deal in place Johnson must ask for more time.

Suppose he asked for it but the EU said 'no'?

Well there is some good news for Boris Johnson.

The UK attorney general's office has said the goverment acted in good faith and in the belief that it's approach was both lawful and constitutional when it decided to suspend parliament.
That should benifit Johnson in popoularity and any vote of no confidence or general election that happens. This of coarse doesn't change the supreme court ruling but it helps Johnson with his own public image

I would assume Geoffrey Cox authored the decision that Boris Johnson did not mean to deceive so I doubt he would throw himself under the bus.Unless I'm missing something

Ridiculous and unlawful judgment.

Boris is weak. He should have refused to recognise the decision and called it illegal. It is an attack on the Royal Pejorative. Plain and simple.

The court gets its authority from the crown. It does not, therefore, have the authority to override the Queen.

Boris Johnson will fly back from New York to face furious MP's after his decision to prorogue parliament was quashed by the supreme court. But a no.10 Downing st source criticised the supreme court, saying they had made a serious mistake in extending it's reach to these political matters.

Jacob Rees-Mogg the leader of the HOC who travelled to Balmoral to formalize the decision to suspend parliament with the Queen ,reportedly said the supreme court judgement was a constitutional coup.
