This is a local story from my old hometown of Springfield,Massachusetts.
3 Springfield men arrested after they opened fire on another car in front of a state trooper leaving a man with life threatening injuries.

Isiah Fraticelli,18,Luis Cotto,22 and Kieth Cotto,24 are each facing multiple charges after attempting to evade carture that started in Springfield and ended alogside a wooded area in Chicopee,MA,state police said.

Authorities said the three men were travelling northbound on I-91 in a honda accord when they pulled alongside another car and opened fire on it,they did this right in front of Massachusetts state trooper Patrick Dolan.

The victim in this matter is now on life support and defendents will most likely face murder charges,it would be funny if it wasn't so tragic.

If a crook is going to so much trouble to win the Darwin Award, why does he have to share it with anyone else?

Stupidity knows no boundaries. When you talk about candidates for the Darwin Awards, you are talking about the dumbest of the dumb. So additional victims are well beyond their control.

Most criminals are very dumb. If they were smart, they wouldn't be committing these crimes in the first place.

Big difference between being dumb and getting caught versus being a Darwin Awards recipient.

My favorite one is that a family was on vacation and this criminal breaks into their house and is taking stuff. He sees their Super Nintendo and starts playing a Street Fighter game on it. A neighbor notices the intruder and calls the cops on him and by the time the police are there, he is playing that game system.

I remember reading this in a book when I was in high school and this was seen as a dumb criminal. It really is a SUPER Nintendo.

well...what are you gonna do if you're both morally impaired, and mentally impaired?

If you break and enter someone's house, and injure yourself - folks will laugh at you if you call 911!

But if you DONT call 911 on yourself when that happens...you bleed to death right there at the crime scene! And folks will laugh at you for THAT!

So...what can you do?

Answer me THAT!

Found this while cruisin' teh Interwebz...

When 17-year-old Mganga Mganga attempted to steal a woman’s car in March 2014, his carjacking plan was completely stalled by his inability to work a stick shift.  The armed teen approached Melissa Peters in an Omaha neighborhood around 7 a.m., as she was about to drive her 13-year-old son to school, and jumped into her white Dodge Caliber hatchback.

Eyewitnesses report that Mganga then spent nearly seven minutes in the car, switching on its windshield wipers and lights in a desperate attempt to work the manual transmission, before cutting his losses and fleeing on foot.  When police arrived, they found the empty car sliding slowly onto a neighbor’s lawn.

Jay Leno used to cover that kind of stuff... I still remember the dude who threw a gun into a frozen river...

BTW, you guys are lucky, in Scandinavia a burglar who injured themselves in order to break into your house would (successfully) sue you... So I guess that would make him a smart criminal 8O

A legendary Las Vegas one is there was a local potato chip company called Vegas Chips. One of their trucks was held up because someone thought it was transporting casino gambling chips.

Commonly, murderers will break glass from the inside, claim it was a BREAK IN, when police can easily tell it was a BREAK OUT.

This is common on real life crime shows.

Not actually true, but often bandied about as an exaggerated example of how our justice system coddles criminals at the expense of citizens.

I can't cite the specific instances, but there are plenty of instances of idiot muggers posing on facebook wearing stolen goods, and one of my personal faves is the one where a guy called the police because he thought his dealer had sold him fake cocaine. He had not. Cue arrest for possession.

Granted, I've been away for a long time and can't remember the finer points, but did know someone IRL who went through that kind of trouble after a dude fell into his house through a skylight and injured himself.
