Women given death threats over playing frisbee

A US woman charged with indecent exposure for playing frisbee topless has been awarded a $US50,000 ($A73,000) settlement.
It’s the first damage settlement for a woman in the US wrongfully charged with being topless, according to local media.

Effie Krokos, a 20-year-old student, said the situation began on September 26 when she was playing frisbee in her fiance’s front yard in Loveland, Colorado while topless.
She allegedly got overheated and took off her shirt without thinking.
“I was like, ‘Oh it’s hot, he’s shirtless, why not just go for it?’” Ms Krokos said.
Several hours later, unbeknown to the future husband and wife, an upset neighbour reportedly called police.
Ms Krokos informed the officer of how the topless ban law was now unconstitutional, but she recalls him only hearing rumours about Fort Collins, not Loveland, according to the outlet.
“I’ve heard rumour of it in Fort Collins but that was it. But not throughout the state,” said Mr Harris.
“Well, this is a topless state. We had training just recently on legal updates; none of this was brought up. So none of this in my eyes is valid. Okay?” Ms Krokos responded.
She decided to file a formal complaint after receiving the citation, which turned into a large settlement after the charge was dropped by the city.
The settlement went into effect on Thursday and her case was officially dismissed.
Ms Krokos told CBS 4 that people had threatened her over the past couple of months, with some calling her “liberal scum”.

I don't know if the topless thing was passed state wide, so could be in the county she was in it was not legalized. Either way death threats seem extreme. But from what I looked up it looks like Fort Collins decided not to enforce anything against women going topless but not sure about the rest of the state.

That said legal or not I think I prefer to have a top on when I go out I cannot imagine walking around outside without anything covering my upper half.

That's discrimination. If men are allowed to walk around topless, women should be as well. Of course, if topless men were also punished then there'd be no problem.

Why would people target her by calling her a "liberal scum"? I thought Colorado was a liberal state in general.

It is fairly liberal but, we do have a bit of an oil industry in the state...and people who largely support that. Also we have excessive development going on which could cause a water crisis especially if people and city/town districts keep insisting on having their perfectly green lawns of non-native grass everywhere and if they keep overdeveloping everything. I have lived here a long time and I am a little bitter about some of the 'changes' they have made. The pretty much destroyed a lake I remember going to as a kid, chatfield lake, they just bulldozed tons of habitat and what not to make way for expanding the lake because the new housing developments need water and now there is bareley any shade, I think they did at least spare some of the wildlife areas but still they just bulldozed so much I don't even want to go there now because it will be painful to see it...but then I kind of do want to go there just so I can see what they did preserve and what they destroyed. There is also another wildlife park nearby and that one has kind of been ruined in a way as well. Its gotten smaller and there is much more development going on around it now like some of this stuff is painful to see having grown up in this state and seeing it before.

Also I am very sad to see land for lease that is covered in prarie dogs, chances are if some corporation buys the land for development it means for the poor prarie buddies. And the numbers are getting smaller and smaller...I mean they used to spread all over the front range but they have been systematically killed for decades for development projects. It is sad because not only are they interesting critters to observe but they provide food for the hawks and eagles as well so it is really sad that they are just being systematically killed...when they were a nessiary part of the prairie the prairie that developers in the state are trying to change into something else. Its a freaking prairie and all the efforts to deny that fact about this area are messing things up. LIke there are not supposed to be trees and grasses that need so much water, this was a prairie and it still is like we need to build housing and such that is more in tune with the actual environment.

But everyone needs to water their freaking lawn and the cities/towns gotta water their lawns when that stupid grass you have to water every night doesn't even belong in this region. The kind of grass that grows naturally is certainly rougher it turns brown sooner in the season but its what belongs here not all these unnaturally green lawns and crappy trees like bradford pears that they plant all over the place. Those trees apparently take up a lot of water plus in the spring they grow flowers that smell like someone mastrubated on all the trees and its kinda gross.

But anyways it's is more of a purple state I think.

You should try starting a campaign to get locals to use Astro turf.

I just read that she said some people threatened her - but did not say death threats.

A lot of men and women get sexually aroused by seeing womens bare breats. Soft porn is images/vids of topless women. Men like to go to "titty bars" to get turned on.

I think it's ridiculous to pretend there's no difference between a topless man and a topless women. What about teenaged girls going around topless? It's fine by me if women are allowed to be topless in public, but again I think denying that it's erotic is ridiculous.

It sounded to me like they were out on a front lawn. Pretty much impossible not to not to notice a topless woman out on a front lawn.

As for the police call, the police did respond and issued a citation.

There is nothing wrong with someone getting aroused over seeing a topless woman, but lets not pretend that a topless woman isn't erotic.

And if it is okay for one part of the anatomy that causes people to be sexually aroused to be exposed in public, why stop there. Doesn't a person have just as much right to expose their genitalia in public? If not, why not?

Look, where I live, public nudity is legal (no, it doesn't mean people run around naked). And in my culture nudity is not considered a big deal, we are used to seeing strangers naked (for example in saunas or communal showers) since we are kids (and no, we do go around with erections all the time, you get used to it). I get, it's a cultural issue.

And nudity is not sexual by default, otherwise, people would have... interesting difficulties while visiting a museum.

I don't see what the fuss is about: the woman was topless in her own yard, in a place where it's legal to be topless in public. So yeah, I'm with kraftie, the neighbours should mind their own business and the police should be aware of the local laws.

As for the threats - whatever they are - people are dicks, especially on the internet

A threat is a threat.....I feel like a threat to harm is just about equivalent to a death threat.

Only a nut would get his/herself wound up over somebody playing frisbee topless. I would tell the person to get a friggin' life.

I'm not denying that it's erotic to many, just that it's not okay to treat the two genders so differently. Many get turned on by topless men, at least the fit ones, so if a woman being shirtless should be banned for it being erotic, fit men shouldn't be allowed to go around shirtless for the very same reason.

And the laws tend to say that women shouldn't go around topless simply because someone decided so. The laws can easily be changed.
