If you were wondering how stupid things could get, there are plain looking handbags that people pay $30,000+ for.

Image

At a country club a waiter accidentally spilled a glass of red wine onto a pink Hermès Kelly handbag (like the one pictured above). The owner of the ridiculous handbag after a year of haggling with the country club for reimbursement, finally sued them for $30,000. The exclusive country club in turn counter-sued the poor waiter.

On top of that the country club is insisting that the handbag be verified as authentic as opposed to being a knockoff. The bag was given as a 30th birthday present to the owner by her husband. So imagine how embarrassing it will be for him if it ends up being a fake.

There's several versions of this, but I couldn't find an article that covered all the details the way I wanted. I heard about it on talk radio.

I would think that anyone who could afford a pink, $30k handbag has disposable income.

I bought myself a Gucci once, thought I was something. But, I made sure it would go with everything.

If you really want to know how stupid things can get, there are waiting lists for those things

I dunno, but could never see my late, lamented Pennsylvania Dutch mother (who passed away on Nov 14, 2011) ever consider paying that much for a purse (if anything, the PA Dutch are quite tight-fisted with money.)

Only get a 30k handbag if you can afford for it to get damaged.

I was in Las Vegas a few years ago, I had a promotional $200 in casino spendable credit.

I went to Louis Vuitton in the "Shops at Crystal".

Excitedly, I asked, "What shoes can I get for $200?", and there was nothing. Shoes START at $500.

That's exactly why, when I'm out on the town with my $30K pink handbag, I only drink Vodka.

I remember that mall. You're making me feel homesick haha. But yeah I remember there was some tiny thing a little bigger than an eyeglass case on display that was like $2000.

The only two malls I have been in that had those type shops are far away from where I live. But, I loved going into the Cartier, LV shops just to see how it felt.

Well, if I were the judge presiding over this case, I would rule that the owner of this crappy looking handbag be subjected to a severe beating by the waiter with a pepper mill. And then, have her wounds smeared with a habanero hot sauce.

(I'd be a great judge. I would.)

Back when I worked at the coffee shop a woman came in with a Coach handbag and fancy clothes and sunglasses, asking for a large-size smoothie and all that and then how much did it cost?

"$7.50 plus taxes," I said.

"Oh, that's too much!"

"It's more than that, ma'am; it's highway robbery," I said, "and that's why I'm on this side of the counter."

If you buy a drink for more than your cashier makes in an hour, then complain the price is high, shade will be thrown.

$30,000 for a handbag that would have a lower value had it a different brand is outrage. There is a difference between artisan quality and the overinflated fantasy world of the rich, blind by prestige.

I could see a purse being expensive if it was very elaborate looking and decorated with gold and jewels.
But generic looking handbag that looks like it's worth maybe $100 costing as much as a nice automobile? lulz.

Nice automobile--a 1995 to 1997 Toyota Corolla can cost you $500 to $2000 on Craigslist and you will have a car that, if fully serviced & repaired, will outlast you. I love my '96.

You're talking about a seriously sweet set of wheels there for $30,000. If I was spending that--I'd keep my old Corolla and buy land.
