A very clever...idiot. Able to build lethal devices. The only target ends up being himself. Kinda of a metaphor for the human race as a whole. Threatened by our own cleverness.

This is why it's important to hire a professional booby-trap installer, instead of cheaping out with do it yourself.

Makes you wonder, was it because he was an novice or because he had a bad memory and should have put warning signs and instructions for how to disarm the traps?

Maybe someone had been harassing him and he was scared. I feel sorry for him either way...

I have little sympathy for anyone who sets up a lethal trap.
It could have killed an unsuspecting neighbour or emergency responder.

"I could go buy a sturdy lock, or I could set up a device that will fire a gun indiscriminately at anyone who opens this door for any reason. Better have some beers and think this over..."
