The proposal includes the four key points:

• A national gun licensing system, with stricter background checks, and a requirement that all would-be gun buyers obtain a license, either from the Department of Justice or from a state-level authority, before the purchase could go through.

• Hundreds of millions of dollars in new enforcement spending.

• A "central system" for tracking illegal guns and people who have been barred by courts or other authorities from possessing guns.

• A federal red-flag law that would allow courts to temporarily confiscate firearms from people deemed dangerous.

I agree with the first two, but not so much with the others. Who is to say that some tyrannical politician with aspirations of imperial rulership would not decide that anyone who disagrees with him should be "Red Flagged", be prohibited from buying firearms and have all of their currently owned firearms (and other incidental property) confiscated without due process?

"We're here to confiscate your starter's pistol, coach, because you pointed it at the opposing team's mascot, and ... oh, what have we here! A brand new wide-screen TV! I bet that cost a lot of money ... drug money, perhaps?
I'll have to confiscate that, too. Search the house, boys. Let's see what else this violent drug dealer has been buying with his dirty drug money..."

Have fun with heirloom guns, that make their way to flea markets, that get stolen and resold.

Gun related or otherwise, I don't understand the logic or lack of logic anyone has that giving up personal freedoms because someone tells you you shouldn't have them or don't need them.

My motto is never ever ever give up a personal freedom unless you absolutely have to. It's most masterful when those in power convince those not in power to willingly give up personal freedoms or even beg to have their personal freedoms taken away from themselves. Truly masterful.
