After the House passed the two articles of impeachment, there were rumblings in the news on when they would get handed to the Senate. Trump is fit to be tied on the issue because it currently blocks him from being able to use the Senate vote to exonerate him from removal of office. Looking at the Constitution, there is no timeline for when this needs to be done. We are at a new political stage, as the founders of our Constitution could not see something like this situation coming to fruition. So, this leads me to an interesting possibility: The Speaker of the House might just sit on the impeachment articles until after the current election cycle is done (past Nov.3, 2020).
Why you might ask? Well, if Trump does get reelected but the Republican party loses too many seats in the Senate, it could then be used to remove him by vote after they get seated in power (Jan. 2021). If Trump does not get reelected, it could be held as a token push back on the Republican party and a tarnish on Trump's presidential image that he could not fix while he was in office. This hurts his image, something that he values greatly. If this is the path that the Speaker takes, it may be politically expensive route to take as there are some seats in the House that are on the line this year. To complicate things more, the House can also start another line of impeachment on other counts that they did not consider in the two that did pass and do the same thing again. There is no rule against that from occurring. Just my two cents on the matter.
