Gervais called 'cut' to politics at Globes, but climate change pervaded.

Quote:
And the acid-tongued British comedian pulled no punches, warning the "woke" A-list audience at the 77th annual Golden Globes not to waste anyone's time with political statements, given many of them worked for companies with poor human rights and labour records.

Quote:
"You're in no position to lecture the public about anything," Gervais said. "You know nothing about the real world. Most of you spent less time in school than [climate activist] Greta Thunberg. If you win, come up, accept your little award, thank your agent and your god, and f--k off."

But no less than two awards into the evening politics – and Australia's bushfire crisis – unexpectedly took centre of stage when winner Russell Crowe used his acceptance speech to warn of the risks of ignoring climate change.

I don't watch awards shows. But I caught that monologue on youtube and it's one of the best things I ever heard.

He said WHAT?!

Hmm ... maybe I shoulda watched the stupid awards show after all, but they all seem like the entertainment industry is engaging in some type of G-rated auto-eroticism. I mean, awards shows could all easily be replaced by a series of cam-girls, each putting on a one-minute show while the voice-over announces each winner, and no one would really notice the difference.

:| Yes, that was sarcasm.

Thank you.

My appreciation for Ricky Gervais has just increased dramatically.

Well done!

I watched the monologue too because my wife watched the whole awards show. I thought it was great. It hearkened back to the way comedy used to be. Unafraid.

Crude, rude, but hilariously right.

Did you all see that bit with the Jeffrey Epstein joke?

I thought it was funny. I like Ricky Gervais.

Sometimes I get a kick out of the political speeches actors give, though, due to the sheer absurdity of it. It appeals to my sense of humor. The more ill-informed the better! :P

Although... it probably contributes to the current political divide in the country.

I couldn't view Ezra's video, it was unavailable to me. In this video I found, this is especially what I liked from 2:08 onwards. My opinion of Ricky Gervais has shot up:
