Well that’s awfully nice of them considering the past interactions of the two countries. Vietnam has fought back against two or three different countries that have invaded them over the years, not just the US. But it’s nice to see
They recognize this is a global fight and those with resources must step up and help those in need. 8) In the end it helps Vietnam, too, when everyone gets this under control.

251 cases and zero deaths. Good job at mitigation over there I guess. Also, makes me wonder if their people are simply way healthier due to diet and lifestyle and thus have stronger and immune systems on average. I mean, I’ve never eaten any unhealthy dishes at a Vietnamese restaurant that I can recall sooo maybe that’s a part of it?

Did you eat dog?
They serve it,and Vietnam can be very different. The South is very friendly and always smiling with free tea.Great bread from the French period.
Not in the north.Lots of dog meat. Some people at the hostel my daughter stayed at accidentally ate some.Best to eat vegan there.
It also gets cold and snows in the north. She was in Sapa for Christmas.
She worked helping some villagers that had been sprayed with Agent Orange during the war.

The low number of cases maybe due to geography (the world trade and travel routes just haven't gotten the virus to Vietnam yet in a big way- though it started in neighboring China- it was in the distant northeast part of China -far from the Vietnam border). Or it could be due to Vietnam's humid and tropical climate. The virus MAY not like that climate. But we don't know yet.

Anyway its great that the world is cooperating on this, and that Vietnam is setting an example.

No. No one serves dog here. I’ve never been overseas anywhere. We have many Vietnamese restaurants here. (and Chinese, Japanese, some Korean, Malaysian, and other restaurants from all over the world - Italian, Greek, Indian, Afghan, African, Brazilian, Mexican, etc etc etc but definitely TONNES of oriental restaurants - Vancouver and surrounding area are well known for that.) I Really Like the curry chicken pho from a place a few blocks from home. No dog, but I did try kangaroo pho at a place in the gay village a couple years ago.

I want to go to Vietnam some day. It’s a beautiful country. This was a nice gesture from Vietnam.

It’s is beautiful, the temples amazing. She sent a picture of the most beautiful Kwan Yin I have ever seen. There was even one made with flower petals.
The prices are reasonable.
Prepare for lots of litter in some areas.
Other than the dog meat most are very devout Buddhists and very caring people.
If they don’t need the supplies than it’s great for them to be able to share.
The South gets more tourists so they have figured out its not good for business.Really good food there, huge homemade bread sandwiches loaded with fresh veggies.
Not so much the North.

I’ve seen some photos of beautiful kite beaches there. Might be nice to go. But it’s not high on my priority list - travel, I mean, in general. I find the idea of spending thousands of dollars to go overseas while foregoing thousands of dollars in income to sound more stressful than enjoyable. I worry I wouldn’t enjoy the time off and would just worry about how many months or years it would take me to catch up on that spent money and lost income towards other very expensive life goals.

*shrug* Maybe I’ll go somewhere for like my 65th birthday or something.

You should Google “rice terraces.”

I would go for the mountains, rather than the beaches. I like to hike.

I can hike here just fine.

IF I’m ever going to blow money on traveling overseas it’s not going to be to go sight seeing. It’s going to be to go kiteboarding on beautiful tropical beaches & then stay inexpensively with the locals. 8)

I would stay inexpensively with the locals. I wouldn’t help with deep-cleaning, though I would help with the dishes.

My grandparents were in Vietnam with the Peace Corps in the 70s.

The war ended 45 years ago. Since then several US Presidents have visited Vietnam and relations have been normalized for 25 years and a bunch of trading goes on.

Thank you Vietnam, much appreciated.
