Progress a step at a time. After all, in India there is much poverty, but there are many vegetarians. The Hindus don't eat beef, the Muslims avoid pork and some of the Buddhists avoid any meat just to be on the safe side in case they were once an item on the menu, or might reincarnate as a sheep!

Also, the government of China is now drafting legislation whereby dogs are classed as "pets" not livestock. (Warning: graphic image in link)

You beat me to it, Misslizard :)
I heard about this earlier today and am very happy about it. No more Yulin!

Although I would never eat dogs, and feel sick just thinking about it, I can understand different areas having different views on it; I have way more problem with the horrific way the dogs are treated.

I'm not against eating meat, but the livestock needs to be treated as humanely as possible.

Sure we can! Jokes don't need to update! :P

It might be on its way out in Korea too, the younger generation is less likely to see dogs as food.

Glad to see this too. It would be excellent if the Yulin "meat festival" is banned in the future. Scheduled for 21-30 June 2020.

This is good news. Lets hope that they make further progress in a similar vein.

I hope so, but I heard just now that the ccp isn't banning wet meat markets altogether.
I guess they are looking for a more virulent type of virus for the next pandemic. 8O

What does it say about a culture which burns an animal to death because it tastes better that way?

My XH's lifelong friend Raymond will be please to hear this! I'll send the link to XH to pass onto him
He has ASD DEFINITELY no question...not even 1 doubt....and he's also the best person...but his most traumatizing moments of his life (apart from his dad being bad to his mom) all had to do with various pets of his being turned into dinner by his

1. uncle/aunt in china when he was visiting 2. dad+ grandmother here. 3. dad.
the last one (rabbits) he suspects but says he still isn't 100% certain (he imagined they actually ran off to a forest by his home even though there's no way they would have unlocked the cage that he had locked in the morning after feeding them)

..it's quite funny the way he tells it but it actually is something he can talk about for hours if u bring it up...which shows how strongly it affected him

All the viruses that have caused outbreaks have come from consumption of exotic animals rather than dogs and cats.

Covid-19 is now almost certainly originated from eating Pangolin meant (a type of Armadillo) so the ban should be extended to other wild animals and across China (not just Shenzen)

They need to be taught Reverence for Life. I'm sure Buddha would be outraged by much of what's been happening there.

Buddha would first be rather surprised his philosophy ever left the borders of India.

India has rather more reverence for life and largely thanks to the influence of the Buddha. Tibet is the most Buddhist part of China, also being not that far from the northern borders of India. Its influence is probably not that strong elsewhere in China.
