It almost sounds like one of those designer heroin substitutes they use in Siberia because they can't get real heroin.I really hope people aren't mainlining this stuff,that could kill them.

You mean inhaling Lysol or that alcohol vaporizer?

If the former lol just no. If the latter, inhaling vaporized alcohol is medically pretty safe to do. It’s also a lot more efficient as you’d get intoxicated faster from a lot lower dose. The reason this hasn’t caught on for the 10-15 years it’s been available is that there isn’t much demand for it. Drinking is a social activity. People prefer to savour a drink and hangout with their friends vs just get hammered as fast and cheaply as possible. Same reason most people prefer to pass a joint around vs stay home and vape weed.

There is a thousand ways to die story linked to an alcoholic who got drunk via his anus. He was warned by his medical doctor that he could never drink alcohol again due to his bad liver. So, he cheated by this method. The problem is that alcohol goes into the bloodstream in a much higher ratio this way than if you consume it normally via the mouth. Well, his blood alcohol reached past a point of no return. It literally was bottoms up for him. I sure hope this does not become a social trend.

As for the original story, I am just shaking my head that he is allowed to give disinformation like that without repercussions. He is not a qualified individual to make recommendations over chemicals that he understands so little about. Please, someone, teach him some basic science principles. This is very embarrassing to see.

I can tell you it was not the majority of scientists that voted him in. He has a history of being anti-science and he cut funding on scientific research from the start of his term. The movie Idiocracy is coming more true day by day.

And people used to drink alcohol when clean drinking water was unavailable.

But I really highly doubt there’s any chance that drinking alcohol will kill a respiratory system virus. MAYBE some digestive tract parasites, but not a virus in the lungs.

Also, the WHO has advised world governments to tell citizens Not to drink alcohol right now (especially in excess vs a drink or two) because alcohol lowers immune system function which makes people more susceptible to getting the virus or any other sickness.

Ethyl alcohol is grain alcohol. It is an accumulative poison, meaning one can consume enough to die if the blood alcohol level gets too high. The amount one needs for this depends greatly on the person. People have been known to drink isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) mixed with grain alcohol if they are desperate enough. Methyl alcohol (wood alcohol) blinds you before it kills you, making it a toxic poison. It only take two table spoons of methyl alcohol to kill an adult human.

I happen to be allergic to ethanol and cannot consume it at all. Even skin contact is dangerous to me.

I think he's referring to how ethanol sold for other purposes is denatured. Grain alcohol (or sugar, or potato , the source doesn't matter) is ethanol, but denatured ethyl alcohol isn't safe for drinking.

Ironically the antidote for methanol poisoning is ethanol, which is something that desperate alcoholics, as well as sellers of tampered alcohol in the past both rely on to reduce the harm.

Isopropanol becomes acetone in your liver, analogous to how methanol becomes formaldehyde or ethanol becomes (too lazy to Google).
