Teenage boy charged in Canada's first 'incel' terror case

Quote:
A Toronto teenager has become the first Canadian ever charged with carrying out an "incel"-inspired terror attack.
The 17-year-old boy is accused of fatally stabbing a woman in February.

On Tuesday, Toronto Police and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) held a news conference announcing the terrorism charges.
The suspect, who cannot be named because he is a minor, had already been charged with murder shortly after the incident, which took place at an erotic massage parlour.

Police allege he fatally stabbed Ashley Noelle Arzaga, 24, who was discovered inside the building around 13:00 local time on 24 February. Two other people, a man and a woman, were found outside the premises with stab wounds.
Ms Arzaga is remembered as a loving mother and a kind person, the Toronto Star reported.

When Toronto police learned the crime may have been motivated by an extremist ideology, they contacted Canada's federal RCMP, which ultimately decided to press terrorism charges.

"Terrorism comes in many forms and it's important to note that it is not restricted to any particular group, religion or ideology," said the RCMP.

A first-degree murder conviction for an adult carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 25 years-to-life, but as the suspect was 17 at the time of the crime, there is no mandatory minimum.

He appeared by video before court on Tuesday morning to hear his new charges, and remains in police custody.

Now I’m wondering what happens in the event of a legal minor being convicted of a terrorism offence?
Do they go to maximum security alongside adult offenders, or to a juvenile facility due to their age?

I think Karamazov was wondering where he will serve the sentence if convicted.

Not sure how much time such things take in Canada, but it's quite possible he'll be 18 by the time he's convicted.

^ Yes, that could end up being the case.
Especially if his defence lawyers insist on a full psych evaluation: which I’d expect to be their top priority.

^ In that case, I hope they don't suggest a plea of "Not Guilty by Reason of Autism".

^ I wouldn’t be surprised if they try their best to wangle something along those lines...
Although whatever the Canadian equivalent to the British “diminished responsibility” is might be a better line for them argue.

Can't speak for Canada but in the US,a juvinile would go to juvinile detention until age 18,at age 18 they would be transferred to an adult prison.

Depending on there physical size and psychological make up,they may or may not be put in general population once in adult prison.Canada is likely similar but the age they stay in juvinile facility may be different,Canada may keep them in juvinile facility until age 21 possibly,in most US states it would be 18 when one would go to adult prison.

The age for adult prison could be 21 in Canada, there softer on crime than America usually.

Interesting read: thanks :)
From what I made of that an individual accused of a serious crime could only use autism as grounds for diminished responsibility if they were also maintaining the offence was committed as the unintended byproduct of a meltdown... I suspect that would be a hard brief to argue and prove.
