LABELLE, Fla. – An off-duty Florida wildlife officer was found fatally shot early Sunday, authorities said.

Florida Wildlife Conservation officer Julian Keen Jr. was found fatally shot in rural Hendry County, and three suspects were in custody, according to the Hendry County Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

Officer Keen is black. A photo is posted on the above article. This occurred close to where I live. I don't know if the shooting was racially motivated or not, but rural Florida is a lot like the Deep South.

I will be looking to see if they give Office Keen the same kind of funeral cortege as was given to a white cop who was killed. The latter was provided a cortege from rural Florida to a major city on the coast. It blocked roads for, just a guess, 50 miles. The cortege included dozens and dozens of vehicles with lights flashing.

Maybe off duty he saw poachers and tried to intervene thinking there wasn't time to call an on duty wildlife officer and the confrontation got ugly.Poachers can get nasty and should never be confronted, always call fish and game even if the poacher might get away.

When Investigator Farrah Turner and Officer Terrence Carraway were ambushed in Florence, South Carolina, that got a great deal of support; I was passing through the day they had the funeral and got to see part of it.

Turner's funeral cortege filled up an entire town. I remember driving over hte bridge and looking down, realizing--"oh, there's her funeral--" and seeing everyone out. People lined Main Street as far as I could see. No way that many people lived in the tiny town I was just passing through. The fire department was out, there was a proliferation of American flags (both the red, white, and blue, and the thin blue line variation) and everybody from all over came.

Investigator Turner was black.

This is the Deep South. They weren't killed for their race. They were killed for their badges as they were coming to serve a search warrant on a sex offender.

Race doesn't matter most of the time. It matters even less when someone is murdered in the line of duty. For the side of law & order, she and Officer Carraway were our George Floyd and Breonna Taylor. I like to think, though, that as the law-abiding element we have much better manners protesting her death and are quite happy to hear the murderer and his pedophile son are both in prison.

The crowds were all races. No one cares. I know this is the autism forum but maybe y'all could remember that humans are human everywhere (I'm saying this before our Australians get in here & remind everyone how racist and Fascist we're supposedly fated to be.)

I still think he surprised poachers, poachers feel safety because in the woods they are not seen,so they think they can get away with a crime and this makes them more dareing and dangerous.

We don't have all the details yet. But you could be right, VS. Coming on the heels of other murders, it still seems scary to me. We have very few murders in my area.
