We shouldn't criticise them too much.

It was probably the first time in months that they got out of the house and so allowed their parents to have some time to themselves... :D

Another reason people believe the spike happened is because of the BLM protest march.

Part of it may be, however a big part was one group of people having a celebration to do with their religion. This would also appear to correlate with the region(s) where most of the outbreak has been occuring, although the local government is doing what it can to avoid mentioning the group or religion for some reason.

What constitutes a “spike” in Melbourne?

It’s a very good day when NYC gets less than 300 new cases.

It was 75 for the state today...Most were likely in Melbourne, but I'm not sure of the exact break-down.

All of Australia had less than 100 new cases. Yep. That’s certainly a “spike.”

maybe treating 100 cases as a spike is why they have it under control. the US certainly doesn't.

Being that the previous 8 days for Victoria had been 19, 16, 17, 20, 33, 30, 41, 49 the 75 was a spike on local terms.

It may be a small number compared to other regions around the world, but each area has different local/state laws regarding what people can\cannot do (Like in the USA, our federal government has minimal power with regards to health laws for this, with the states\local\city governments being responsible for bringing in and enforcing the majority of these), different climates (which may or may not affect corona's lifespan in the open\sun), different population densities, and probably more factors as well, so it's a bit hard to really compare any 2 places.

That said, we have been rather lucky down here compared to other regions.

I was getting around to that.
Don't say I said this, but it was an ethnic group that caused the problem. Shhhh! 8O

One more reason why the outbreak, errr, outbroke, to get round to.

I wasn’t being sarcastic when I stated that Melbourne has experienced a spike. 75 out of less than 100 is considerable.

Australia has done an excellent job in containing the Virus.

But the bigger issue is "Is the death rate rising due to COVID?" If you see a spike in the death rates, then the pandemic is gaining traction in Australia.

It can take a couple weeks for this death spike to show up. It is a lagging indicator.

Australia hasn’t had a death in at least a few days. They’re “stuck” at 104.

Trinidad and Tobago has taken rather draconian measures—even though they’ve had 126 total cases and 8 total deaths within a population of 1.4 million. My wife is from T & T.

The measures were understandable.
