WNEP reported that authorities in Plains, which is south of Scranton, said there was an argument between neighbors at about 9 a.m. over shoveling. Neighbors told the station that they heard about nine gunshots.

Jeffery Spaide, 47, shot his two neighbors, James and Lisa Goy, police said. Their bodies were found outside in the snow. They leave behind a 15-year-old son with autism. The teen will taken care of by his grandparents.

The poor child. They may need therapy after such an incident, especially if they saw it occurring. I hope they're OK.

Indeed.

Found a local news source with a higher quantity of significant details than the national network felt moved to include, https://www.citizensvoice.com/news/crim ... 914a7.html

Quote:
The victims, James Goy, 50, and his wife Lisa Goy, 48, were outside their home at 13 W. Bergh St. shoveling snow when neighbor Jeffrey Spaide, 47, of 6 W. Bergh St., came outside with a pistol and opened fire, killing them both, police said.

“Apparently there’s been an ongoing dispute between neighbors, some of which involved a dispute about snow disposal and removal,” Luzerne County First Assistant District Attorney Sam Sanguedolce said. “They’re across the street from each other, and when they would remove snow they would throw it across the street at the other person’s property.”

Police said that after killing the Goys, Spaide went back inside his home and got an AR-15-style rifle.

“He retrieved the rifle and shot them again,” Plains Twp. police Sgt. Michael Smith said.

Officers arriving to a report of shots fired found Lisa Goy dead in the middle of the street and James Goy dead between some vehicles, Smith said.

“Upon our arrival, Spaide shot himself,” Smith said. “We heard the shot. At that point, we made a tactical entry and he was found with self inflicted gunshot.”

He could not just stay in his nice warm house and videotape their behavior through his window with his phone camera?
Then call the police and show them?
Then show his attorney and sue them?

I also feel sorry for the child. The two most familiar people in his life have been shot, dead.

I read more news releases on the situation;
They were REALLY bad ‘neighbors ‘; screaming at him in the street, and whenever they shoveled snow, they would dump it all on his yard!
But again, why not videotape these aggressive, intimidating incidents, involve the police, and sue the ever-loving daylights out of them?

Ouch. Maybe they sort of deserved it... but then they didn't, because humans don't deserve to be killed in cold blood unless in self defence.

I agree completely.
The police could have been called, videotape evidence and tape-recorded threats shown or given to them.
Once the law enforcement verified the criminal had happened, and hopefully issued some sort of ‘Cease and Desist ‘ order, a lawsuit could have been filed.
Perhaps, considering their hostility towards their neighbor, they were not the kindest, most patient parents for an autistic boy.
I wonder if there had ever been concerns regarding his care.
Hair-trigger tempers are not the best reaction to children with autism.
