Judge orders couple held for 120 days in death of autistic boy
Quote:
The father and his girlfriend accused of abusing two autistic brothers by apparent starvation that led to one of the boy’s death were deemed a danger by Judge Kevin Finnerty on Thursday. The pair will stay in jail for another 120 days after the dangerousness hearing.
Jacyln Marie Coleman, 26, and John Almond, 33, are facing two counts of abuse of a handicapped person and possession of a class A substance, heroin.
Coleman is facing additional charges for assaulting a police officer during the investigation and intimidating a witness.
Assistant District Attorney Seth Aitken said additional charges are forthcoming.
On Oct. 21, 14-year-old David Almond, one of a set of triplet brothers, was found emaciated and unresponsive after a 911 called was placed from an apartment at 107 Green St. He was later pronounced dead at Charlton Memorial Hospital.
According to a police report, investigators described the deceased boy as lying on a gurney in a trauma room in a supine position wearing an adult diaper that was saturated in feces and was covered in fecal matter from his head to his knees.
During the approximately 1½-hour hearing Thursday, it was revealed the family has been under Department of Children and Families attention for more than one year.
