That kinda thing only happens in rinky dink little third world countries like Gambia. Having elections with questionably legitimate outcomes. You know...like have one candidate win the popular vote while another gets the electorial vote. Or having the election manipulated by a foreign power!

Thank god we dont live in a riff-raff country like Gambia! :D

I was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Senegal, which is the country that surrounds The Gambia on all sides (if you look at a map it looks like Senegal is Pacman, eating the Gambia).

The interesting thing is, Senegal is actually the most stable, democratic country in the area, and hasn't had a major conflict since gaining independence from France. It's also relatively on track in development, and is pretty much only behind Ghana and Nigeria in West Africa. Senegal's previous president actually wanted to become authoritarian and prolong his term, and the public was so against it and for democracy that they voted him out.

It's always been really strange comparing Senegal to the Gambia because they have pretty much the same Wolof/Mandinka cultures, so a random Senegalese village is pretty comparable to a random Gambian village. But Senegal is the area's most successful democracy, and the Gambia is one of its most notorious dictatorships.

Frankly, I can't see Jammeh succeeding with this. I don't see how Senegal would allow it, and Senegal has strong allies - France and the United States abroad, and Mali in the region. But then again, it's surprising such an oppressive figure has stayed in power there this long... and if Trump is in during their transition, I doubt he'll do anything, so I guess we just have to hope Le Pen doesn't win France

naturalplastic - lol, we are living in interesting times...

A President challenging his defeat at the polls might be a glimpse into our future four years from now.

Hopefully the forces of reaction won't be able to accomplish that in four years.

something that's been bugging me since nov. 9, why are so many of his voters such sore winners? shouldn't they be happy as their man won?

Because they're vindictive sh*theels who have to rub it in. No mystery about it.

If you're referring to people who voted for Trump, then I think some people who voted for Trump now are siding with fellow Trump voters who now believe Russia influenced the election.

I can't help but think that this will just be swept under the rug and forgotten. corruption is now out in the open, blatant and proud and invulnerable.

Something similar's happening now in the US. Many people are demanding a second election in the face of these "Russian hacker" allegations. The FBI doesn't think there's anything to it (http://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-trump-intelligence-idUSKBN14204E) and there's no precedent for it so I doubt it'll happen.

That's not anything questionable, and were the result reversed you'd probably not complain about it.

That's not anything questionable,

Its not dishonest, or illegal. Just like slavery was legal once. But not "questionable"?

A system that allows the person whom most of us voted against to win the election is not "questionable"? If you say so.

Lol this thread sure did age well.

Granted, even in 2016 Trump was already suggesting without evidence that I'd he lost (Pennsylvania, at least) it would be because of "cheating". Just makes it clearer to those of us with a lick of sense that these accusations of fraud were as predictable as they were nonsensical.
