(clicky)3 million computer users installed 28 malicious Chrome/Edge extensions. these extensions could infect your machine with viruses, below is the list of Chrome extensions that Avast said it found to contain malicious code:

BTW I just got a new phone and I can't find how to look at Chrome extensions there. Maybe there aren't any.

It's just that I think programmers have an instinctive distrust toward the sort of thing talked about in the ZDNET article. I wonder if any other programmers here agree.

^^^ do you mean to say that programmers per se tend to avoid most browser plug ins as less than trustworthy?

Yes we know how poorly most software is written.

Why am I not surprised that there are dodgy browser extensions? I'm of the belief that they should have to be scanned by the browser provider before they go in their store.

If you get rid of all the bloatware it comes with it runs fine as long as you don't install more! I have two laptops and five PCs running W10. Only one of the PCs gives trouble because it was never designed for W10 (made 2008ish) so tends to crash though I suspect if could be a graphics card issue.

all i know [i'm no puter expert] is that with an I3 processor @ 3.2 Ghz, 8G RAM, 1tb HD, it still runs slowly and runs out of memory in about 8 hours of solid use, whereas the windows 7 puter i had with just a fraction of the memory and processor power, ran all day and the next day without crashing.

There was another extension I had (upvoice) and it would give me 10 points a day for browsing on Twitter or Facebook or Amazon. Then Chrome disabled it saying it had malware in it and took user's data. I was still able to get my giftcard thanks to some savvy person on Reddit and they posted a link to it where we can get access to a list of giftcards to select to redeem our points. Facebook actually blocked it. I also saw it was up again and I signed up with google and tried to download it for Windows 10 but AVG blocked it. I moved it to quarantine. I refused to open it after it said it was a threat.
