I remember the day when Henry Aaron hit his 715th home-run.  I thought it was a great achievement, and openly said so.  Most of the sports fans I knew treated it like Mr. Aaron had somehow committed a heinous act against all white people everywhere, and let me know what they thought of me, as well.  I think that was the last time I ever expressed any interest in professional sports in my hometown.  A year later, I left my hometown for good.

I watched that game!

Al Downing was the pitcher; he used to play for the Yankees.

Two young guys chased Aaron around the diamond; it was an amazing scene.

It happened in Atlanta.

He had to put up with so much. He just was doing what athletes do, be competitive. He handled it all with class.

I also remember watching that game 47 years ago.

I was very sorry to hear of his passing. He was a great baseball player and did it all before the steroid era. I am lucky enough to have a signed picture of him with Mays and Mantle. I just wish I would have met him in life. I rate him right up there with Ruth, Gehrig, Robinson, Mantle, Mays and Clemente (in no particular order, they were all strong HOF baseball players). Truly a great one. RIP

He was an example.
He was what sports is supposed to be all about.
Rest In Peace, Mr. Aaron.
