Ex-Trump adviser Navarro indicted by grand jury

Quote:
A federal grand jury has indicted Peter Navarro, a former Trump White House adviser, on two counts of criminal contempt of Congress for defying subpoenas from the House Jan. 6 Select Committee.
The two misdemeanor counts stem from his failure to comply with demands for documents and testimony in the panel’s investigation.

Navarro was indicted on Thursday, and the indictment was unsealed on Friday.

It’s unclear if Trump’s former trade adviser had been arrested following his indictment. According to court records unsealed Friday, a federal judge had ordered that the case remain sealed until an arrest warrant could be executed.
Navarro is expected to make an initial court appearance Friday afternoon.

If convicted, he faces the possibility of up to a year in jail and $100,000 in fines for each count.

The select committee subpoenaed Navarro in February, seeking documents and testimony about Trump allies’ efforts to overturn the 2020 election results. Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.), the panel’s chairman, said in a letter to the economist that lawmakers were seeking more information about his public claims that more than a hundred lawmakers were on board with those efforts.

This guy is so stupid. Keeps going on TV to admit his crimes and dig his hole deeper. He's gonna be fined & go to jail, IMO.

I was sincerely worried these investigations would drag along till the Republicans were able to come back into power and put a stop to them. Maybe now we can actually see some convictions before that happens.

I think everyone who opposes the insurrection/insurrectionists (not just 'the left') feels similarly. This stuff seems like it's dragging on a long time with no action.. buuuut maybe that's just how long it takes to investigate - it's big stuff with a LOT of players and evidence/data etc. Even simple criminal investigations can last years.

Part of me feels like all of it, 100% of it, is all just political theatre - something the USA is an absolute master of.. WWE style political entertainment.. pretend there are two sides to choose from, let them argue and create drama.. meanwhile all of these people are from the same political/moneyed ruler class and they're in cahoots with one another to control the masses of peasants. Even the whole authoritarian fascist slide of trumpism.. is it really an independent movement that's risen out of peoples' frustrations? Or completely orchestrated by powerful people far higher up the food chain than trump even realizes exists ? Maybe that bit is too far fetched and trump really is a dirtbag that's trying to destroy American democracy simply to make himself King and stay out of jail. But the whole 2 sides is a BS illusion thing is 100% spot on.. doesn't matter who gets voted in, very little changes.. the rich keep getting richer and the poor keep getting poorer.

One of the gross things about it all is that both sides of participated in the dumbing down of America.. gutting public education to the point that the average adult reads at about an 8th grade level. It's little wonder politicians can get away with convincing Americans that universal healthcare isn't feasible, that proper public education can't be done etc - all to keep everyone stupid and compliant, toiling away for the Billionaire class' benefit.

But I'll still tune into the next season of this political theatre and truly do hope that the worst of the trumpists all go to jail in time to prevent trump/trumpist republicans from seizing control of the US government. Thing is, this whole time that we've been keeping up on news about the far right's crimes, the media they consume has been convincing them they're all patriots and Biden and Democrats are somehow illegally accusing them of made up crimes etc etc sooooo, yeah, not gonna be surprised when there's more January 6th style political unrest in the USA over the next handful of years At Least/for as long as trump is alive, and then probably in his name.
