WA nurse charged with 'gains benefit by fraud' after pretending to administer a COVID-19 vaccine to a teenager

WA Police have arrested and charged a nurse after she faked a COVID-19 vaccination and fraudulently recorded the vaccine information of a teenager.

A Western Australian nurse has been charged by police after she allegedly pretended to administer a coronavirus vaccine for a teenager.

On Sunday WA Police arrested and charged the 51-year-old woman in relation to "the fraudulent recording of vaccine information" after she failed to administer the COVID-19 vaccine at a medical centre in Perth.

“It will be alleged the nurse inserted the needle into the teenager’s arm, but failed to administer the vaccine,” WA Police wrote in a statement.

“It will be further alleged the syringe, with vaccine liquid still inside, was disposed of and a false entry was made on the medical records system indicating the teenager had received the dose of the vaccine.”

Police will also allege that the nurse attempted to falsify the record and cover up her actions by recording that another employee of the medical centre had administered the vaccine.

The woman was reportedly exposed when the second medical practitioner who is required to observe the process – who in this case was a doctor – saw her fail to inject the vaccine.

Police said the St James medical centre reported the incident which prompted the investigation.
