Every other day for the last week or so, I kept getting alerted about Chicago Bulls players entering health and safety protocols. It’s gotten so bad that thankfully, the next 2 games are postponed.

I still believe strongly that being vaxxed/boosted is a good thing bc it prevents severe illness and death, but I’m pissed off that COVID has still found a way to hit near and dear to me. ALL the players on the Bulls are vaccinated and STILL it spread like wildfire? Before all this, players on the Bulls and other teams have had a player or two enter health and safety protocols, but presumably everyone else on the team tested negative and games were still played. But something was different with the Bulls.

NBA games are supposed to be postponed because of a blizzard so bad no one can drive anywhere, not because of COVID outbreaks. Baseball games are supposed to be postponed due to rain, not because of COVID outbreaks.

Vaccination has proved to be an essential tool, but not the miracle we had hoped it would be. While the vaccinated remain significantly less likely to catch and spread the disease, they can still do both. That wasn't known when vaccination started and a lot of policies were set, but it is now and I'm disappointed at how little the messaging has adapted.

I'm thinking I'll be masking in public for the long haul.

Sorry COVID has wreaked havoc on your ability to enjoy your team.

Some variants actually seem to have an affinity for the vaccinated:
Quote:
The Omicron wave of the coronavirus pandemic is being driven by “young, healthy, vaccinated” people, according to the World Health Organisation.

Data from countries including the UK, Denmark and South Africa show a similar pattern of infection with the new variant, which has now been detected in more than 60 countries including Australia.

“Generally those first cases are in relatively young, relatively healthy and – in the context of Europe – in relatively highly vaccinated groups,” Dr Catherine Smallwood, a senior emergency officer at the World Health Organisation’s Europe office, told the UK’s Telegraph.

As we all know, vaccines are utterly useless at stopping spread but government policies around the world aim to stop deaths by stopping spread.

Unfortunately, this will become a regular occurrence for years to come, if not forever.

There is no way to separate the effectiveness of the vaccine from the increase in riskier and less cautious behavior of most healthy youths after getting vaccinated.

No, the vaccine didn't betray anyone. The problem is covidiots breaking the social distancing rules, people living in countries without such rules at all, and a virus that has persistently gotten slightly more deadly and heaps more contagious for every new successful mutation.
The vaccines were made for the original Wuhan virus, and we're lucky it has been as successful as it has against the British, South African, and Indian variants.
The new South African variant was a game changer, in that even vaccinated people get sick. The virus bypasses the immune system and makes even vaccinated people sick, but luckily we still see that most vaccinated people are protected from severe illness.

so, we should all live under Austria and Australia’s restrictions forever and ever. Got it.

Social distancing is very difficult in a team sport where athletes share the same locker room. Locker rooms are perfect petri dishes for disease to spread. The Chicago teams are not the only ones. 36 NFL players tested positive yesterday and the Ottawa Senators and New York Islanders have had to postpone games.

Masking up when indoors or near others should do it; frequent testing for situations that isn’t viable or desirable. We’re moving into a “live with” phase, throwing all the tools in our disposal at it while still living our lives, JHMO.
