Cool stuff.

Interesting,
"
At its peak, the fireball was more than 10 times brighter than a full moon, NASA said.
“What struck me as unusual was how few eyewitness reports we had given the skies were so clear,” said Cooke. “More people heard it than saw it.”

Yep. From NASA, https://blogs.nasa.gov/Watch_the_Skies/ ... rdly-seen/
"
A fiery meteor streaked across the morning skies in southern Mississippi yesterday on April 27, 2022.

NASA called it a bolide, defined as a meteor that explodes in mid-air. Apparently that is what people heard.

I think more people heard than saw it because people stay indoors, especially in the hot south.

So what makes a rock explode? Uneven heating? Steam from water ice trapped in the rock?

Research shows why meteoroids explode before they reach Earth

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Our atmosphere is a better shield from meteoroids than researchers thought, according to a new paper published in Meteoritics & Planetary Science."

Isn't a fireball in Southern Mississippi usually the result of a still exploding?
