As many of you on WP know, I have been wanting to relocate to Seattle, but have been hindered by high housing prices. I hope this plan isn’t a bare bones one, but one that can accommodate not only the homeless, but also middle/working class people, of both current *and* future residents.

The article mentioned duplexes, tiny houses and quads, but with the state (especially Seattle) in very high demand, huge block apartments and 50-story high-rises will almost certainly be needed as well.

There's a million new highrise apartments/condos all over Seattle. And I bet most of the units are empty. They're not there for housing. They're there as Monopoly game real-estate.

I mean they get bought up by investors to flip around the market. People buy and sell real-estate whether it's a structure or empty land to make money off it. Sometimes they'll buy up an older building, make some superficial improvements to modernize it and then sell it to make a big profit. They're not interested in maintaining them as landlords of a bunch of tenants.

So I guess I won’t be able to relocate there unless I’m rich.

While Spokane doesn't have Seattle's rep for liberalism, I can attest how there are still many progressive minded people living in the city, and in the surrounding cluster of communities. And it's a good deal cheaper to live in compared to Seattle.

Keeping some housing unoccupied is a strategy to drive up rents but also remains profitable because of what you're describing.

Perhaps places between Seattle and Tacoma or between Seattle and Bellingham are affordable.

Don't bother moving to Portland.

It's a dystopia (so to speak) for three reasons.

Homelessness

Gun Violence

Incompetent City Leadership

I read that Boise is now the most unaffordable city in the country.

Boise? Really? Idaho is a deep red state, more conservative than Texas could ever be.

Better move quick, I'm a hair south of Tacoma and my home value has been skyrocketing, the whole I5 corridor is just through the roof these days.

Mayor Wheeler and the majority of the City Council have continued to not listen to the people.

Only one member, Mingus Mapps, has common sense to make sure the people are heard.
