A fertility doctor used his sperm to get unsuspecting patients pregnant. Some of his 94 biological children share their trauma in the film 'Our Father.'

I don't understand why those people are that traumatized.

Because they might not have had an actual father in their lives.

Biology can evoke great emotions in people.

Biological or a father figure? Those women went there for fertility treatment, so they wanted children for sure, whether they had a man to raise those children with is a separate matter.

Honesty.

Accurate genetic tracing.

Potential parents spend a lot of time screening their donors, looking for traits that will fit in with their family. Plus, if the donor is someone other than identified (as in this case), there is a chance siblings could date by mistake.

Someone lied to their mother in order to trick her into using his sperm to conceive them. It is a little bit rapey. People like to think they came into the world because their parents were in love.

Kidding right?

I suppose it makes one feel like they were part of a science experiment.
Then there's the issue of suddenly finding out you have 93 siblings.

I remember when that scandal came out back in the 80's. Remember hearing the Grease Man doing predictably foul jokes about it...making a nursery rhyme about the "splurt-splurt doctor".

Then the story ran its course and went away. Hadnt thought about it much since. Until I saw this thread just now, and now realize that those babies that the guy sired would all hafta be grown adults now... all thirty plus now! And that the doc must have grandkids too.

The 94 gathering in one spot would make for an interesting "family reunion" event.

I'm curious why these people are so upset over their existence. Why is this such a life-defining trauma to them? They're lucky to be born to parent(s) that actually wanted a child, as opposed to growing up in a foster facility.
