Any other Canadians notice the up tick in ketchup chips?

There used to be a couple brands that made ketchup chips. Lays and Old Dutch. Now there’s gotta be a dozen different ones, including a few spicy ketchup and even some sweet ketchup ones. Hell, even Dorito’s has one or two varieties of ketchup chips right now.

The only logical explanation to drive such an explosion in ketchup chip availability must be the demand created by the US news cycle during covidtimes.. everyone’s glued to the final season of America that’s been dragging on for 5 or 6 years now.

This isn't just a Canadian thing, My wife and daughter can't eat french fries without drowning them in tomato sauce.

In Canada, a "chip" is a potato crisp. Chips are called "fries" they are a critical ingredient of poutine. You can only get ketchup chips in Canada. The War of 1812 (secretly still being fought) was started over a plot to manufacture ketchup chips in the US.

My reference is entirely to the gif above. "Canada watching US news." The guy is eating a bag of ketchup chips - which afaik are uniquely a Canadian market snack food product.

But legit, there used to be a couple brands and now All the brands have 'em and more - regular, spicy, sweet, double flavouring etc.

There's plenty of stores that sell British, Canadian, Australian etc foods in most American cities. Or they can be ordered online from such stores. Canadians also sell them on Ebay and such.

Personally I'll stick with Lays BBQ chips.

Americans can buy ketchup chips now ? But maybe only in some specialty shop or from Ebay?\

We can buy them everywhere. Grocery stores, costco, gas stations etc, everywhere chips are sold pretty much.

And their availability has skyrocketed over the last year or two. I chalk it up to American news. Other Canadians may be able to corroborate.

'Walkers' are the dominant brand for chips here (crisps as we call them) and they did bring out tomato ketchup flavour crisps a decade or so ago but they taste exactly the same as the well established prawn and cocktail flavour, so presumably that is the reason I rarely now see the ketchup flavour crisps available on the shelves as well as being excluded from the mixed-flavour multi packs.

In the summer Cheetos came out with a limited edition brand of ketchup Cheetos shaped like maple leaves. I really liked them. I also like ketchup Lays but most other ketchup-flavoured chips are too sour and like battery acid in my mouth.

Funny thing is I don't put a lot of ketchup on my foods. French fries, scrambled eggs, sausages. Sometimes burgers and hot dogs. I read somewhere that putting ketchup on hot dogs in the US is seen as a crime against humanity and that it can even get you kicked out of sports stadiums if they see anyone but small children put ketchup on a hot dog. Is that true, or are these certain Americans just think they're gourmets of the decade?

Opposite of the truth. you're considered a weirdo if you DONT put ketchup on your hot dog here in the states.
