On abstinence: They probably would work if people ACTUALLY abstained. Sound in principle, failing in practice.

On alien dust: There are more things in heaven and earth...

It would be stupid to assume that kids aren't going to have sex though. And abstinence-only sex education is ridiculous.

Aye, instead teach the kids how to use a condom and make sure they have easy access to them. As long as they get used there's an extremely small chance of failure.

Exactly. It's all very well trying to encourage kids to wait. But assuming that it's going to work on them all, without having any back-up option is just irresponsible.

"Abstinence Only" is like telling drivers they don't need seat belts, because they should "just abstain from getting in accidents."

That's encouraging them to go out and do it! Condoms don't prevent broken hearts either.

No it's not. I doubt many kids who weren't going to have sex already would suddenly decide they will just because they know how to use a condom. It's stupid not to show them. A lot of them are going to do it anyway, and we know that. So instead of pointlessly trying to stop something which is going to happen anyway, it's better to prevent teenage pregnancies and STDs. Some silly little girls having their heart broken because they were stupid enough to sleep with someone who'd go and screw their best friend instead doesn't really matter to me - teenage pregnancies do though, that affects other people.

There's a hell of a lot of difference between a 13 year old getting pregnant and an 18 or 19 year old.

I am aware of that. But do you really think that just telling kids not to have sex will work?
