BBC won't broadcast episode over fear of rightwing backlash

"The BBC has decided not to broadcast an episode of David Attenborough’s flagship new series on British wildlife because of fears its themes of the destruction of nature would risk a backlash from Tory politicians and the rightwing press, the Guardian has been told."

(FYI David Attenborough is a nature presenter and expert who has studied and shown us the natural world for decades, a well trusted and knowledgeable man.)

That is bizarre. An open admission that the BBC is prioritising rightwing feelings over facts about our planet Earth. Now I know for sure that the BBC is not independent anymore.

I can't get my head round how the environment has become political. Nature isn't left or rightwing, it just is.

I don't know much about the UK right, compared to their American counterparts.

Here, it would be because trusting science = questioning Gawd(TM)

Environmental issues, such as wildlife protection and climate change, are targeted by the right because (a) their association with hippies, because the right's evangelical base refuses to take advice from "naked, godless druggies", and (b) beholdenness to oil and mining.

*Gawd(TM): the evangelical right's version of God, which views LGBT people, independent women and non-believers as bigger problems than hunger, war and inequality.

I don't think the UK right are so obsessed with religion as in the US. Christianity generally doesn't have much of a hold over Brits, it's seen as a bit wacky, old fashioned and it's even been labelled as leftwing, it seems. The highest official in the Christian Church here, the Archbishop of Canterbury, was labelled left wing and woke recently for talking about the cost of living crisis, gay marriage and other 'woke' subjects.

In the UK they worship the unwoke, the non-PC, common sense (?), non experts and absolutely HATE the European Union.

I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't think climate change was a lie started by the EU And definitely something made up by 'leftie, woke snowflakes who are all in the pay of the big environmental charities.' WTF.

I am just dreading a big environmental catastrophe hitting us soon, no one will be prepared for it, and some people will still be shouting 'it's all fake news by the tofu-eating wokerati' as they drown in a tsunami.

He's in his 90s, he's been studying nature since he was a child. He knows more about nature and the environment than all members of the UK government put together

People just have no critical thinking skills anymore because their minds are full of celebrities and media nonsense. It really, really is like that film Don't Look Up. Everyone is so distracted by their phones and entertainment that they don't notice the disaster til it hits them.

I am so annoyed about this David Attenborough thing and the Gary Lineker one. FFS people, wake up! If you disagree with the government you mysteriously lose your job! It will start happening to all of us one day.
