In another edition of Cyberdad's sign of the times
A cherished children’s plush toy brand has divided parents around the world after it partnered with an American TV personality for its latest product release.
Soft toy retailer Build-A-Bear Workshop has joined forces with drag queen RuPaul Charles for an online exclusive product which features a bear wearing the performer’s signature golden dress, blonde wig and makeup.

Featuring RuPaul’s name on its left foot, the bear is advertised as a “one-of-a-kind” collectors item and appears under the Build-A-Bear website’s over 18 The Bear Cave section.

not all were on board with the collaboration, with some slamming the drag queen and the plush toy company for the “impact” it may have on children.

“Okay you like to be a drag queen fine. But why do you feel the need to encourage children to do this? Why can’t they make their own minds up when they are grown? You did. Let them find their own way without influence,” one person said.

A second added: “(RuPaul) is not a parent. Why does society think it’s OK for people who do not have children to make decisions for families with children??”

“You know very well teddy bears attract children and if you’re using a bear to make a statement, then you’re addressing this to the children … This is disgusting.”

So essentially -

'Hey, this is our new product, it's in the adult section of our website intended for adults only'

'This isn't appropriate for children'

'Did you miss the part where we were selling it in the adult section?'

I think most kids would probably find a man dressed in drag entertaining/funny, not traumatizing.

I doubt many youngsters will think it is a guy dressed like a gal. Is it anatomically correct?

The image makes me wonder if the creator of the toy was trying to show what would happen if Oprah Winfrey and Dolly Parton somehow had a baby together . . .

I meant in general, kids more often than not find that kind of thing funny.

Idk what kids would think of that particular bear, but apparently that specific item isn't intended for kids, it's an collector's item for adult fans of build a bear. Sorta like Lego has kits intended for adults, that can be more complex to build than the ones for kids.

I don't have problem with this offering.
If it was dressed as a Dominatrix, THAT would be different.

Far too many people have the misconception that drag is sexual. It's not a porn genre. People don't go to drag shows like they'd go to a stripper bar.

In bars, the content is adult - much like a comedian performing for an adult audience. In other venues it can be entirely all ages.

Drag on TV has made it more mainstream and there are kids who get into it if that's their chosen drama/entertainment thing.

We all watched this queen's antics and very few of us decided to pursue drag:
