Australian journalist Jade McMillan reporting for "Foreign Correspondent" reports on how the state of Florida is waging war on teachers

This was a good watch. I agreed with a lot of what was said. I agree that I have never witnessed any teachers saying, "white man bad," etc...

I will say that young people lack the context that comes with being alive for a while, they tend to run with ideas. Meaning, there are some who will pick a fight based on a true lesson about black persecution in the USA. That does not mean that I think black history should be sanitized. That means that perhaps more attention should be given to the age of the students when history standards are being parceled out. Give them a chance to make and keep friends of all races in schools, as families still tend to segregate after all this time. Then, perhaps there won't be the urges to fight over what was done. With more emphasis on seeing everyone as an individual...

I haven't pulled this example out of the air, I watch this. I work in a Title 1 middle school and the way and timing of information presented can and does result in fights over what took place 50-60 years ago. That helps nobody.

Ultimately the lesson here is that politicians and parents have no right to interfere with education curriculum,

There are other options such as selective religious schools and homeschooling if parents really feel so passionately about not exposing their kids to mainstream curriculum.

I don't like what is going on here but these are public schools. Not only parents but all taxpayers should just shut up about how their tax money is being used. It was parents and taxpayers advocating that integrated schools and got the curriculum described as "woke" taught.

Are you suggesting educational curriculum be parent driven??

They should have a say.

It works both ways. Do you want black parents in a white supremacist district to have no say because the "expert" educators in their district say slavery was good for the slaves? What if they can't afford to move?

This s**t is weird. We have some weirdos here protesting things like SOGIE education in public schools - stupid; bigoted parents shouldn't dictate the curriculum of public schools. IMO.

The problem with politicians is that they play politics.

I resent having been psychologically abused because of the Holocaust.
No child should grow up feeling guilty simply because they were born of a certain tribe.

Teachers teaching children to feel guilty?
Political lies/misrepresentation?
Time will tell.

Bottom line:
There are two sides to a story.
There are good and bad ppl on both sides of the political divide.
I prefer to maintain scepticism until further information comes to hand.
Death to jumping to conclusions.
Keep in mind that this report is from a left-leaning source.

we have 100 IQ people telling 130+ IQ people what to do and how to do it. this isn't good.

Some of those doing the telling are 130 IQ people pretending to have an IQ of 80 to appeal to voters.
Some of them are people with IQs of 80 trying to pretend they at least score 100.

I have no idea how common this sort of thing is today, but it has happened in the past.

On the one hand parents are being blamed for the lack of control and follow through with regard to behavior and discipline meted out by the schools, but when they are involved in areas they aren't wanted, the schools tell them to butt-out.

The lack of parental involvement in the lives of the students is having a much greater impact than the few parents who bother to show up at the school board meetings. Nearly everyday there's at least a code yellow, every two weeks there's a code red. Around Christmastime 4 of our 'scholars' thought it was a good idea to rob the house across the street from the school, in broad daylight!

I actually agree with Persephone, Parents should take more role in their children's education. The role is to help their children navigate the curriculum presented in school.

School prepares kids for the real world. Parents who take an interest in what their children learn (and not make up fiction) are helping their children, Disrupting school board meetings over paranoia/unsubstantiated conspiracies does not help anyone.

If a parent is truly passionate/serious about wokeness they can guide their kids on their own values and beliefs. After all, aren't conservatives always saying that people should be exposed to all arguments??
