A 29-year-old woman who enrolled in NJ high school has been charged with a grand jury indictment.

Her attorney said the Rutgers University graduate knows she made a mistake and that it was her longing for the kinds of friendships she had in high school that made her decide to do it.

Apart from her falsifying paperwork, I can't see a moral problem.
If she was looking for a younger boyfriend (or girl woman-friend) , would that really be an issue, her being only 29?

"Storm in a tea cup", me thinks...

That's the picture her lawyer is painting. But imagine a 29 year old man doing the same thing? In any case I feel sorry for her and hope she can find friends

Agreed.
It would be much worse if a man was involved.

Legally it would be a problem if she dated a guy. He would be underage. Or had a lesbian thing with a girl.

Morally I dunno. You might argue that it wouldnt be as morally bad as if she a man of 29.

She looks incredibly young for her age. Male actors who pulled of playing highschool students when 29 include Johnny Depp and more recently Darren Barnett who is a 29 year old actor who does pull off a high school jock in the Netflix series "Never have I Ever"

And yes, straight to jail for a 29 year old man

Several years ago we had a man in his 20's illegally enroll in a local high school to play basketball and he is now a felon. So I have seen this happen with young man but this is the first time I have heard of a young woman doing it.

Not necessarily.
Most students in year 12 are 18 y/o over here in Australia.

I don't doubt it.
The media would crucify a man and, less so, a woman.
The age difference would probably be only 11 years if an 18 year old was involved.

BTW, we can only SPECULATE why she enrolled at the skool.
It may be, as she stated, her desire to relive those happy times in Korea.

Edit: I misunderstood what you said.

Most high schools have an age limit even for legit students, which I always thought was kind of weird. After a certain age they're supposed to complete their studies from home / online.

While I do not condone what she did, I do hope she gets the help / support / treatment she needs instead of jail.

Reminds me of the Hey Arnold! episode where the grandfather returned to grade school to complete his education.

Reminds me of "the Twilight Saga".

Which is about a 200 year old dude who is still going to high school.

Unless I missed something it's never explained how he was able to enroll, nor why he was enrolled. Just because he looked young because he was an undead vampire doesnt explain either thing. Maybe he just never got his GED.

That is a terrible reflection on human society of the 21st century. Lonely people going to such extreme measures.

I can understand it. My best friends were those I had in the sixth form at school and at university. I haven't made any good friends since.

Doesn't the same government which would do that also have laws which they themselves enforce about how it is illegal to treat people differently on account of their gender?

I think when it comes to law, it was originally written at a time when it applied differently to age and gender, disability, sexual orientation, race and religion. Therefore even those who enforce common law tend to go back to legal precedent which often are outdated and need revision/updating (For instance Brown Vs Education Board OR Rowe Vs Wade were made in the 1950s).

In theory men and women should be treated the same in a court of law. In practice the judge/court not always apply the same yardstick.
