3 dead, 6 wounded in shooting at hookah lounge in south Seattle
City police didn’t immediately release any information about a possible suspect or suspects in Sunday’s early morning shooting in the Mount Baker neighborhood.
Officers responded to the scene around 4:30 a.m. Sunday after receiving multiple 911 calls, police said.
A 22-year-old man and a 33-year-old man died at the scene, and a 30-year-old woman died at Harborview Medical Center, officials said. The names of the victims weren’t immediately released.
Of the six people wounded, a 23-year-old man was in critical condition and the other five were in satisfactory condition, police said. They ranged in age from 21 to 38, officials said.
Police are still investigating what led to the shooting. Five guns were recovered at the scene, police said.
Mass shooting in Milwaukee leaves 9 injured
The shooting happened near 14th and Burnham around 11:43 p.m., TMJ4 said.
The victims range from ages 16 to 42. Six men and three women were shot and injured, according to TMJ4. Police say all of the victims are expected to survive.
Milwaukee police told TMJ4 they are seeking ‘unknown suspects.’
8 people, including 5 teenage boys, injured in south Minneapolis mass shooting
Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara says it happened just before 6 p.m. near the intersection of East Franklin and Chicago avenues in the Ventura Village neighborhood of the Phillips community.
O'Hara says Metro Transit police officers heard gunfire and responded to the scene, followed by Minneapolis police officers. They found three teenage boys suffering from leg wounds in front of Minneapolis Market.
While officers were treating the victims, another injured boy approached them, who had a graze wound to his shoulder. Those four victims -- all between the ages of 15 and 17 -- were soon taken to Hennepin Healthcare, where three adult victims soon arrived on foot. One of those victims is an 18-year-old man, and the other two are a woman and a man in their 40s, according to O'Hara.
A 16-year-old boy also showed up to Children's Minnesota hospital with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
O'Hara says the victims told investigators they heard gunshots, but didn't see where they came from.
5 shot in drive-by mass shooting, suspect still at large, Georgia deputies say
Jefferson County sheriff officials said at 8:20 p.m. Sunday, deputies received reports of a drive-by shooting on Handy Street in Louisville.
When deputies arrived, they found five people who had been shot. All of the victims were taken to the hospital.
Two victims were transferred to Augusta University Medical Center, and the other three were treated and released.
Authorities are working to determine the motive.
No suspects have been arrested at this time.

On the bright side, since mass shootings are so common they no longer get the attention and infamy for their perpetrators that they once did so maaaaybe that'll deter some from bothering if that's their intended outcome.
Also, good thing that wasn't a day we decided to ride to Mount Baker.. mind you, that neighbourhood of Seattle is probably far from the actual mountain and we would be riding to the mountain. (Simply because I've never been there before and apparently it's a nice ride.. but chances are that area is also under fire watch etc so maybe not feasible to go anytime real soon - would have to check all that first.)

It's a real shame when mass shootings are so common you can't even become notorious through committing one.
It says something about how many of them are motivated primarily by a desire for notoriety though. It seems like that motive might only represent a drop in the bucket.

Most likely correct. None of these shooters were even named, no manifestos found etc. They just simply live in a country where anyone with a beef to settle Or simply a desire to shoot up a bunch of random people can access a gun & ammo WAY easier than mental healthcare.
It's the old "When all you've got is a hammer, everything looks like a nail." Guns, guns, everywhere.. target, target, target..

Most of the mass shootings I post about are not what we associate with mass shootings with somebody shooting random people up in a mall or school for terrorism, notoriety, or mental illness reasons. Usually it's some sort of dispute either personal or gang related.
While there has always been a lot of gun related deaths due to disputes what seems recent are these people involved in these disputes having no compunction about causing collateral damage.

Was just going to call you on this, these aren't "mass shootings" in the current lexicological sense as they weren't random and were largely gang related (note the cute trick of counting teens, up to 19 in some cases, as "children"), I wish people wouldn't conflate them as they're distinct crimes with different solutions, but it's obviously part of a broader political push to ratchet up fear.

Yes, because labelling them as “multiple projectile firings of adolescents,” definitely 100% changes reality.
People should be rightfully afraid of being blown away for ~no justifiable reason in your country. Way too many guns too easily accessible by people who shouldn’t have them.

Depends on who you ask. Most definitions I have seen say four or more shot sans shooter.
What is considered a mass shooting?
A 2020 article from the National Institute of Justice Journal notes the challenges that arise from the lack of a single definition of the term “mass shooting.” Its authors claim that research is “hampered by a lack of agreement on definitions of critical terms, such as ‘mass shootings’ and ‘mass murders,’ and by the absence of consistent sources of data on mass shootings.”
Further, they note that “The federal criminal code lacks a distinct mass shooting offense; this may help explain why researchers use different terminology, or types of criminal offense, in their analyses of the same phenomenon.”
The Department of Justice, for example, shared a 2013 analysis of mass shootings that defines them as “any incident in which at least four people are murdered with a gun.”
News reports on the number of mass shootings in the US are likely to reference the Gun Violence Archive, a nonprofit that defines a mass shooting as an event with a “minimum of four victims shot, either injured or killed, not including any shooter who may also have been killed or injured in the incident.” Many media outlets — such as Reuters, CNN, and the Wall Street Journal — reference this definition of mass shooting. According to that tally, the US has experienced nearly 400 mass shootings so far this year.
None of the definitions above mentioned anything about the shooting being random.
If a person shoots 8 members of the shooter's family under the "media definition" it would be defined as a mass shooting but "domestic dispute" would be the better definition.
A common posting of mine is a probable targeted shooting of multiple people in a public area. This creates a random danger to anybody who happens to be around. I do not have an issue with calling these mass shootings.

Be that as it may, if someone mentions a mass shooting, do you picture a gang dispute or some random nutcase shooting up strangers? As I mentioned, the distinction is important, as gang and domestic violence have different causes and different solutions than the random attacks from fame seeking losers.

20 or so years ago it was easy to make that distinction as in general people did not involve people that are not parties to the dispute, now not so much.

I disagree, people getting caught in drive by crossfire isn't new, nor is spousal violence spilling out beyond the household, it's the coverage that is different, the same coverage that drives the random shootings with the promise of infamy.

Numbers never lie. Stats prove the problem is increasing.

One, untrue, but also, do you know what the stats actually show? Like, for example, murders peaked 30 years ago in the 90s and except for a recent upturn that can likely be attributed to unrest around the pandemic and Floyd riots, violence has been down? Sorry to rain on your narrative, but you really should try checking this stuff before posting.
