Quote:
LOS ANGELES — Matthew Perry died Saturday of an apparent drowning at his Pacific Palisades home, a representative for the actor and a law enforcement source say.

Perry was 54.

A 911 call came in at 4:07 p.m. local time and was treated as a water rescue, according to a law enforcement source.

There was no indication of foul play and no confirmed cause of death, the source said. An investigation is ongoing.

Los Angeles Fire Department spokesperson Brian Humphrey said first responders went to a home in Pacific Palisades based on a 911 call at 4:07 p.m. about a “water emergency” of an unknown type.

No one was taken to a hospital, he said, and Los Angeles police officers from the West L.A. Division were on scene.

More details about Perry’s death were not immediately available Saturday night.

Yeah. To someone my age "Friends" doesnt seem all that long ago. So one of the stars dying is more shocking than a star from an earlier decade.

Apparently he had drug and alcohol issues historically, and used prescription drugs.

It is sad that he drowned in any case.

^Yeah, I'm guessing intoxication led to drowning vs. just falling asleep in the hot tub.

One nice thing he leaves behind is his open transparency that he falsely believed that fame & fortune would make him happy.. and that once he had those things he realized that was all a Hollywood lie told to him and that he told himself, that he was still miserable, drug and alcohol addicted and that fame and fortune weren't actually answers nor solutions to any of his problems.

I find it refreshing that someone who got paid very well shares flat out that the money didn't fix anything. Reinforces that true happiness comes from within, from our own thoughts & perspectives. There's value in that message. 8)

If anything, his wealth seems to have made his addiction to opioids even harder to deal with. If one set of doctors wouldn't give him what he was craving, he would just throw money at the problem until it got him more drugs. All started with prescription drugs after an accident, and destroyed his health to a frightening degree.

Similar story for many opiate addicts today, rich or poor.

Whether their own prescription or using prescription drugs recreationaly, no fentanyl addict started on fentanyl.. it's pretty much medically impossible. If I were to take one hoot it'd kill me. Every fent user had to graduate up from less potent drugs they built a massive tolerance to.

For sure!

Money cannot buy happiness. It can help a person avoid abject misery caused by poverty, but that's about it.

This is such a sad story. Sadder because of all the Friends, he was the most fragile and I'm not even really shocked he was the first to go...

Lots of people saying that if someone takes a lot of drugs when young, it permanently weakens their body and causes problems as they start to age. Plus too long a time in the extreme heat of a hot tub can finish vulnerable people off. Same with a sauna I imagine.

But who really knows til we hear about the post mortem.
