A popular retailer Costco has opened the doors of its newest mega store more than a year after it closed the doors to its first-ever Australian store.

Costco officially opened its $18 million Ardeer warehouse on Wednesday after shutting down its Docklands location in early 2024 and announcing a future relocation – and fans were quick to rush in to check it out, queuing outside from as early as 6am.

Australians were surprised at the amount of attention a Costco store opening drew.

“I’m so confused. There’s a Costco 20 mins down the road from me and is never busy. What’s going on,” someone else asked.

One social media user commented: “When will it not be chaotic? I wanna go but not with this many people.”

“Love how all these Aussies will fight to the death about how they hate Americans and all their food is poison but will do this to go to Costco,” one said.

I mean, I can't see why the fuss? I've been to Costco and the products aren't really anything to queue 12hrs for?

Who wouldn't be excited to buy a 144 pack of toilet paper?

^^^ think of a warehouse with acres of boxes of goods sitting on shelving that has overhead lighting and vinyl floors and cash registers. Very classy.

I always get disorientated at Costco, due to the crowds and endless shelves and weird smells that make me sick. Also its annoying as the half the shelves are stacked 8-15ft so you need to find a staff member who are the worst when it comes to customer service.

I guess there are kids for whom Costco hotdogs and Royal show bags are just a dream come true. I should refrain from sounding like an IG influencer.

Costco is all the rage around where I live but the funny thing is, I've never been to one. Thing is, the concept of paying to shop someplace is just weird to me. I live alone so I don't need 2 gallons of mustard or 50 paper towel rolls. Now pringles chips and beer, then maybe we'd talk :D /

Still, the idea of going in there during a peak time of the day just sends anxiety waves over me.

You misspelled great. There's a reason why Costco has used them as a loss-leader for ages, people like them. Even better, they haven't raised the price in my lifetime.
