Site posts videos of autistic behaviors

Quote:
A new Web site offers dozens of video clips of autistic kids contrasted with unaffected children's behavior. Some of the side-by-side differences can make you gasp. Others are more subtle.

The free site, which makes its debut Monday, also defines and depicts "stimming," "echolalia" and other confusing-sounding terms that describe autistic behavior.

I just looked at the site and got bored, it tells me nothing new. It takes the PXXS like most things do, what I don't like also is that the way they make it look like a news flash I don't no why but that bothers me. I'm sure I saw the a comparison with the word normal in it that bugs me no end as nothing is normal. ARGGH who ever did that site needs to get a life.

We all know that Autism Speaks has a bad story and a bad history. I don't know why anyone would give them any credit.

They're a fairly extremist bunch of curebies. They make it sound as if we'd be much better off if we had Down syndrome instead, and that our parents must be living saints to not have killed us in childhood. If you really want an example, you can watch their online movie, Autism Every Day, and see if you feel like you've been fairly represented.

Alex started a thread about it several months ago. In one of the videos the VP of Autism Speaks talks about how she contemplated killing her autistic daughter and herself because the daughter was autistic while the daughter was in the room playing on the floor (she was about 7, and might have understood more than people think). She then said that the only reason she didn't do it was because she had another daughter that wasn't autistic.

Since then the attitude of this site has generally been that Autism Speaks doesn't speak for us and that they can just go f**k off.

There's your back story.

Autism Speaks speaks for no one but themselves, their claim of one out of 166 is an exaggeration or a blatant
misinterpretation of statistics. There two ways to lie with statistics: improper sampling or improper presentation of the data.
These people I think do both.
