doesn't the chemical convert into ecstasy in the stomach?
GHB is a metabolic product of 1,4 butanediol. Not through stomach digestion.
And it
isn't ecstasy. They call it liquid ecstasy, but it has very different chemical effects. Ecstasy is basically a differently structured amphetamine, while GHB is not dissimilar to alcohol. Would you like me to go on with my rant?
Yes. It sounds like an interesting rant.
Okay...
Ecstasy's actual chemical name is methylene dioxymethamphetamine, or MDMA. Gamma hydroxy butyrate, or GHB, is a naturally occurring neurotransmitter, in small amounts of course. It is one of the main inhibitory neurotransmitters, compared to MDMA, which acts like a stimulant in many ways. Perhaps the only thing these drugs have in common, off-hand (besides popularity at nightclubs), is that they seem to have a disinhibitory effect. People who use them tend to lose inhibitions. GHB does this mostly because it acts like alcohol. MDMA affects the serotonin in the CNS, although it's unknown how it's 'empathic' effects are created.
Ecstasy, unlike GHB, requires synthesis chemically always, whereas GHB is always present, to some degree, in the body.
