Our nations soldures put their lives on the line for their mission. Wether you agree with the wars or not, we certainly should be supporting out brave men and women fighting them. Unfortunatly, its a discrace to this nation that after returning home from duty, some of them end up homeless. Just like our vietnam vets who still struggle with mental problems or financial difficulties who certainly deserve to come home to a nation where people are willing to help them and make sure they are taken care of and living in their own home. This almost makes me want to throw up. How can our politicans send these guys to fight but not want to help them when they return, this has been going on since before I was born and its absolutly horrific.

This also came up today in the Dino-Aspie thread, and I wondered out loud whether co-operative/credit union organisations in the USA might be in a position to do something. Maybe someone who knows more about this could comment.

In the UK the problem is more with the Reservists or TA(equivelent of National Guard) who go to Iraq and Afganistan.

Whilst teh regular soldiers get the benefit of weeks together to unwind, talk over experiences and full back up of military medical services, the TA are often just dropped straight back into civilian life.

I may not agree with where or why they are fighting but they are and thus as individuals they deserve our full support.

Ya ^! Soldures should not be just taken from a war zone where they spent 15 mounths being surrounded by people who insanely hate them, the bombings, watching out for suicide bombers, and living in almost hell the whole time and then just send them back to civilan life. I dont know what its like but I can imagine its gotta be very difficult (obviously from the article) and I can see now that their can be other problems such as PTSD, and health problems from stress. I read soldures come home completly different people sometimes, violent, abusive they have not been re-introduced into civilian life, they need time to unwind, not sure what the military jargon is for it, but they need evaluation, help, de sensitizing, or whatever else. I dont know much about how the military does the introduction back to civilan life, but they definatly need to work with returning vets more to enshure they are not a danger to themselfs, others, that they have a place to live that they are ok ect.

It took Vietnam vets years apparently from what I read to finally have their lives unravel, but these vets are just coming home and almost instantly ending up all messed up, lots of menatl problems, war is hell and these poor fellas need more care after they put their lives on the line for oil.
